    shorthorn herd sire

Our bulls have been breeding for about 3 weeks now. Just thought I would share a picture of our 3 year old shorthorn Hatfield Governor 17X. I just love this guy. Can't wait to see what his heifers will do as cows!

    A few Blue Roans

I love blue calves!! Really like the light one. Too bad there isn't black patches on the knees... easier for cleaning if you were to show 'em. Very nice! (thumbsup)

I was feeling ambitious over spring break...

Nice herd Larissa! I like Zara, be nice tosee her after she calves. I also like Woot. If I had to say something critical about her, I would say that she's a little long in the teats. Whiplash really is a nice cow. (thumbsup)

    Thought this was cute

That is a very nice picture! Can't complain about a cow that can do that! This year in our area there has been a lot of twins born. Our place, it always seems to be the cows that are average in performance that seem to twin. Never the really heavy milkers. So far this year we have had to cows...

    black angus bull question

OK, so my son was sticking to his guns with Cole Creek Cedar Ridge. He looked at all the bulls that were listed, and really enjoyed the info given but he was sticking with his own opinion. ( He really liked Conneally Concensus but the $ was too high for him.) Than just for fun, his uncle give...

    New calves on the ground

Here are some from the black angus bull. The first on is a steer out of a 3 year old cow. The second is one of my favourite heifer calves from this bull. The only problem is I really don't care for the cow. She looks good but she performance is average. So we'll see how this heifer turns out.The...

    New calves on the ground

The calves are really starting to grow now. We are very pleased with our shorthorn and our black angus herd sire. Here are a few pictures from this morning. Once again the tempurature took a dive so a few have a bit of frost around there nose. These are some of the shorthorn cross calves. The...

    Big Calves

When I was a kid and we owned purebred/fullblood  Simmentals ( the original kind) 120 -140 was not uncommon birthweights. This year our heaviest was a 140 lb calf from a  cow who has a bit of simm in her background. We had to pull that one, it was not a hard pull. We also had a cow give birth to...

    Sick calves..Help!

How old are they? Could it be naval infection? Is the naval area swollen, tender, or wet? When we have a calf with naval infection, we usually notice first that the calf is a little lathargic. Never fun to have them come down with something. Good luck.

    Starving Calf Question

Are you sure the calf is healthy? Sometimes they can be a little off and especially when they're that young it can really stunt them.... just a thought. Your 9 year old will love her new project. My kids sure did! Good luck!

    Hey color experts!!

Yup, she is a "rat tail" but she comes from one of our better cows and we took a chance that she wouldn't pass that on to her offspring. She is structurally a very correct cow and she has developed a pretty decent udder.  The calf is a dark dark chocolate. We'll see how she grows. So far the...

    Starving Calf Question

If you really like this cow: 1) get her in a chute  and check all 4 quarters, see if there is any milk, check for mastitis, make sure they aren't sealed etc. 2) Make sure cow doesn't have  a fever, indicating she is sick somewhere. 3) Get the vet to check her 4) If that doesn't give you any...

Would you use a bull this colour??? New pics from CWA

He's a nice lookin' calf  (thumbsup) Would love to see him at Agribition as a 2 year old  ;D (We hope to go with our 4-H club again in 2014)  ;)

    Hey color experts!!

Are Simmies known to be diluters? The calf I have pictured here is the wildest colored calf we have ever had. The Grand dam is a commercial shorthorn, who we think has a bit of Simmental in her blood. We bred her to our black angus bull and got a dark grey curly haired heifer out of her. We kept...
