I like the ads too but I would like to see more articles, like the ones in Shorthorn Report in multi breed papers, like Cattlemen Magazine. I think it is good to show how well the shorthorn breed actually works" on the farm".  I don't know how to get that done though. I really enjoy your blog...

Wow! That's awesome! It's great to see them go to commercial guys. Have you noticed an increase of shorthorn bulls going to commercial cattelmen in the last number of years? Saskatchewan seems to have a rising shorthorn market..... I'm just curious because my dad thinks that we should go...

we have about 40 commercial cows. We write the cow # on the top and then give the calf a # with the year letter behind it. (e.g 145z) If its a heifer it gets its own personal #, if its a steer it gets the same # as its dam. So if a cow is 123X and she has a bull calf then we # the bull calf...

Dateline goes back to some Connealy bloodlines. I like the kind of bulls they produce.  www.connealyangus.com  I don't know much about them but they seem to know what they're doing.

Other than 4-H calves we don't show our steers. But we castrate all our calves as soon as they are born. We use the little green cheerios. We've had to help with other methods and we much prefer it this way. I wonder how much difference it makes in weight gain on calves when they are steered...
