    Herd Dispersals

Gardiner Angus Ranch is really the only one that comes to mind that might fit that criteria.  They were one of the founders out at US Premium (which has made them a ton of money, but wouldn't this be ranch related).

Shorthorn $ figures now have % rankings

I'm a big believer in epd's, but they need to have the actuals to back up the hypothetical #'s (which the shorthorn breed is seriously lacking).  Also you have to trust the program that you are buying from. ;)

its ALL red, white, and roan under the hide!

Where does it state the price paid for the calves?   It basically cost the same to feed these four animals. #3 had zero medical,#3 weighed 875 in weight almost 100lbs. heavier than anything else and finished about the same 100lbs heavier.  So in this case it seems that lbs won out (which it...

    Myty in Focus

Yea, Black is hot in more than one way! In Focus is a lot of things (good and bad), low B.W. and calving ease (direct and maternal) are a couple things he is good at consistently (from what I've heard and seen)

    Hay Prices in your area

In the article they are recommending putting pressure on the feds to release CRP.  Why is there no pressure recommended on the DOT in Iowa to change or at least provide an exemption on their regulations?

Grain prices. How high will they go ?

It didn't rain here much from first part of July 2011 till Nov. (the grass just went dormant), I'm hoping that doesn't happen again but it's looking like it will.  I guess the surprise for me is the size of the drought area, I don't think many thought it would affect production as a whole as...

Grain prices. How high will they go ?

If the weather situation doesn't change alot before next planting season, I would say prices will drop as far as inputs.  But if the midwest gets much needed rain or snow and subsoils get replenished - watchout.  If things look wetter by next spring I would say almost every grain farmer will be...

    Obama's business model

Is that blind faith talking there XBAR?  ;D I think the problem most people have with the Socialist idea is not giving to those that need, but taking from those that work and giving to those who don't ( because they don't want to).  I'm all for giving to those in need, young, old, disabled, but...

Grain prices. How high will they go ?

It would be much more economical to move cows than move silage, it's possible to move it just not practical.  Corn silage either needs to be fed with in a few hours of cutting or put in a silo or bunker to ferment and then fed.  Some producers won't want to chop silage because they don't have...

    Mineral Feeders

We have the same type that Lightnin4 likes (maybe different company - ours are blue with black flap).  We've had them for several years virtually indestructable, ran over one with tractor - didn't hurt it a bit.  They don't rust, break, or tip  over which is the problems we had before.

    Dry Summer isn't it?

Spring of 08 till spring of 2011 all it did was rain here and was cool.  July 2011 it stopped raining and got hot, dry mild winter, dry warm spring, now dry hot summer and the crops don't have any subsoil moisture to fall back on so they are just toast unless you are one of the lucky few to get...
