Keeping cattle on feed at shows

We have found that full tank from sun glo helps alot.  The cattle eat it better than straight beet pulp, and it really helps to fill.  Also we take all the hay they will eat to keep them full as well.

    Any Planeteers going to Phoenix?

Chis and chi crosses seem to always be an issue, but a good heifer and a good cow is still a good heifer or cow no matter what the breed.  Let the people show their best no matter what it is.  If you raised it and you are proud of it it shouldn't matter what breed it is or isn't. Or at least...

    Any Planeteers going to Phoenix?

I agree on the 75% rule, it does make it hard to get in there in show.  We are in the same boat.  Only taking two of our 6 heifers.  Hopefully with the budget cut, next year they might open it up to everyone.  Also would love to see an open jackpot show there in stead of just an Arizona jackpot...

It hasn't been updated in quite a while.  They have some fall born steers from 06, one of which we bought showed and is now way past hanging on the rail.  In fact he has already been put on a plate and passed and he is still posted there.  It was a wonderful webiste, met a few good people there...

    ALIAS/MEYER 734 CROSS

Yeah but that is only one that I have seen, I was hoping there were more people who have used that cross.  I know Who made who and Meyer can throw some outstanding calves, so with the charolais influence I was curious if good calves were consistent or if the cool look of vanilla ice was just...

    blueblood heifer

her hair is a bit wild on her hip she has a number of cow licks and it sits pretty high, she is pretty stout across her top.  Like I said I caught her on the run, she is 4 and a half months old, when I get her halter broke and can clean her up and straighten her hair out I will send out more pics.

    blueblood heifer

just a quick shot with a camera phone.  What do you think  She is out of a double vision/maine cow and blue blood.  she will be 5 months old at the end of november.  The pic makes her front look like she is splayed out, but they all go forward she was debating about making a run for it.

    tattooing of market steers

this wasn't a purebred calf and the tattoo was readable in both ears from a distance with the calf laying down in the stall and he was weighing 1400 pounds.  Very legible tattoo for such and old calf.  I have two and three year old cows I can't read tats on unless I have them in a chute Red I...

    tattooing of market steers

The calf had the same tattoo in both ears.  He was a steer.  What I am asking is if it is Common practice for a breeder to tattoo a "MARKET STEER" not breeding animal?  I have never had a market steer tattoed by breeder, the only tattoos we come across are usually cattle that have been sold...

    tattooing of market steers

How many people tattoo market steers in both ears prior to selling them as show calves?  Is this a common practice in market steers or is tattooing generallydone on steers that have already been through a market show and sale?  There is a qustion in ethics at a recent show in which the champion...
