Wouldn't investing the 10k extra in a bull make a bigger impact?  Buy the best bull you can, turn him out with 25-30 cows and have 25-30 calves that are better then they otherwise would have been.  Of course AI allows you to reach better bulls then you can afford but you still have a cleanup...

Pass to breed or to freeze?    I know we have had nine and a half month old breed a heifer calf.  And hat is if it was the oldest bull in the group doing it.

Yes and no......  On one side yes if they STAY small they will have less pelvic area.  But on the flip side they themselves carry half of the genetics that will control how big their calves will be......  We just calves a cow last night that I had bought at the sale barn last spring before...

If you take good care of him, mineral esp, but maybe supplement him some one would probably do.  That is a load from the number of butts to sniff but hopefully will only be breeding 15-20 which is very manageable.  A bull with some experience might do the job better, ESP if the AI cows are...

Selsum blue (?)  works great at least for humans.....  Scrub it up good for a minutes or so with a short family stiff Bristol brush.    Works great on humans anyway.....

But are you used to topping the market with that Holstein 1700 pound steer.....  It is a way to protect all the kids calves from a few big ones in how they set the floor.    I am not sure about not letting them sell at all however. I have seen a lot of young kids, or even older kids get a calf...

We built for 10x12.....  A souix calving pen is 10x10.  In the old shed I know there wre times we had split pens down to 8x10 when we had cycled heifers calving and crappy weather.....    10x12 feels right, I am sure others might say it is too small, but if you have them in the shed it is to...

Great cows and you will be ok even when they "miss" and you sell them as salebarn cows.....    Iffy cows will be hit and miss IMO......
