    Need Help on Embryos

Are i80s making good cows?.... I would be looking for Irish whiskey or Meyer influence in the embryos if keeping cows is an issue.    Not saying you can't have both a show steer/heifer and mama cow out of the same breeding, but you probably need to prioritize if it comes down to it which is...

    Calving addition......

Don't disagree that concrete was needed this spring, just though there might be so etching that would let water and pee down.....

    BODY RATIO:WEANING WEIGHT

So are you suggesting that an inverse relationship would exist with this ration compared to feed conversion to retail product?  Seems like you are

    Calving addition......

Tomorrow dad and I are gonna set poles to build. A 16x48 add on to his shed to use as a calving shed.    Plan to have a four foot alley down the long side to let pairs in and out, plan to have the maternity pen and three other 10x12 pens in it.......    Talking about the floor, dad was thinking...

    BODY RATIO:WEANING WEIGHT

Also to me, terminal vs maternal is not depth....    Head shape, neck and shoulder shape, shape of hip, leg structure......

    BODY RATIO:WEANING WEIGHT

Are they shallow made? Or being pushed so hard on feed they don't develop gut......    We have a predominately limi herd that is anything but shallow made cows.......  Sold a calf that was high percentage limi to a kid for a show calf.  He left the farm deep flanked and pretty darn soggy.  I...

Most exciting part of cattle business.....

We only have the one Stetson daughter that stuck to him.  The other was the cow that we flushed, and after she didn't settle the first time we didn't want her any later so we put her in with the bull.  Have three that will get bred to him next year.    It is just fun thinking about all of...

    BODY RATIO:WEANING WEIGHT

It would be interesting to chart this in several different herds......  Obviously in a herd the cattle would tend to be of similar type but would have the same or nearly the same feed in front of them.    I would think though that the relationship would still exist in high quality feed...

    BODY RATIO:WEANING WEIGHT

Hip height minus the height to the naval would give you depth of body.......  Divided by hip height would give you the percentage of height that is depth of body.    A say a cow is 66 inches at the hip, her belly is 22 inches of the ground.......    66-22.    44.    44/66.      .66666666.  Or...

Most exciting part of cattle business.....

This morning I have the two kids for a little while, not long enough Togo get anything done before I have to go to work, but long enough to sit and ponder......  This years calf crop turned out pretty well, considering we were left scrambling for bulls when our two main bulls did not test out...

Feeding question for former bottle calf

I will let other that know more about it then me respond but they will likely want to know when is target show.....  And perhaps if you have an idea of the calfs projected final frame size?      Sounds like a good calf for you and your daughter to learn on.    Nice and gentle for a good first...

    BODY RATIO:WEANING WEIGHT

You don't think their is a relationship between depth of body and ability of a cow to wean a calf?

    BODY RATIO:WEANING WEIGHT

A post on another thread got me thinking on this...... how much of a direct relationship would there be between say a measurable stat such as (hip height-height of umbilical)/ hip height  to the the weaning weight of the cow's calf? I think it is pretty widly believed that the relationship...

    Pasture Pic

This is what I ws thinking, but as many calves as she has had I might be tempted to flush her to the sire of her best calf.......  No need to reinvent the wheel
