    one thing you could change

Heifers shouldn't be too fat.  Then go and pick the heifer that's fatter than a market heifer.  ;D

    Trouble Growin Hair

I agree about brushing.  I think its importance is sometimes underestimated.  Also, do you have fans blowing in your cooler?  Good to have air moving.

    Foundation Female Sale

I have an unbiased opinion and I'll add it here.  If you are close and don't have anything going on, this sale is a must attend.  You'll be hard pressed to find the variety and quality that this sale offers in one location.  I guess it depends on what you are looking for, but I personally don't...

    Foundation Female Sale

I'm anxious to see the cattle in person.  Looking through the book, I certainly didn't get the impression that the quality was down at all.  I keep seeing Bob and Nick add more great consignors every year. Getting anxious for the sale season.  ;D

    Cattle Investor Question

I've been approached by a few friends that know nothing about cattle about the possibilities of doing some partnerships or being involved in my cattle business.  I've been turning them down because I really don't want the hassle and have viewed this as a hobby myself, but I'm starting to think I...

Iowa County Fairs low in numbers

I guess I don't like the idea of using the county fair as a state fair qualifier for cattle.  I would rather see a regional or something like that if there needs to be a qualifier (which I'm still not sold that there does).  I'll use Wayne County as my example.  You have 40 head at the county...

Iowa County Fairs low in numbers

I was at a county fair last weekend where top half of the class wouldn't have worked.  There were two quality animals in some of the classes and when I say quality I mean the type of quality that could do some damage at the State Fair.  One class in particular where an animal that had done some...

    Foundation Female Sale

Lot 167 - The JF Foundation heifer certainly took a good picture.  What's the story on her?  You know anything about the cow side?

    Slick vs Hair shows

I can think of a few ways to take money out of it and even more ways as to why those ways don't interest me at all.  I'm telling you what - these kids even the poor ones learn to work harder to beat the money and they are better for it.  I can't see near as much interest in the project if...

    Slick vs Hair shows

I used to be on the fence about this as well.  I then listened to Bobby May tell at a Fitting Clinic that the kids get so much more out of the project from the work they are putting in to grow hair than otherwise.  Then I thought about my own daughters and the time we spend together brushing...

    Iowa State Fair Steer Show

I don't have any predictions.  Most of them I haven't seen since the Winter Beef Expo.  One question - do you guys think that the junior shows should be more accomodating to the cooler cattle and have more shows in the winter/spring?  I've often wondered if that wouldn't bring a few more out. ...

    T-84

Sure you can.  I use mine to clip smaller(bucket/bottle and cow/calf) calves heads especially.  They are much quieter and easier to get in smaller places than my big Oster Hair Heads.  I think a lot of people think of the T84 for back dragging only but they work real good on shaved areas too.

    Sherriff Taylor

What kind of cows is Sherriff Taylor working on?  Also for those of you that have used him, what has been your experience with his birth weights.  I've only seen females - how do the bulls look?  Overall would you use him again? Thanks

    Vinegar

I'm a big fan of Sullivan's Double Dip.  It might be cheaper to use Vinegar and Mane/Tail Condiotioner combo though.  I've never done the math.  It's a great product by Sullivan's though and I don't go through it all that fast myself even using it daily.

    Simmy Junior Purebred Champ

Again reread the posts, I didn't say anything about not treating an animal if it wasn't feeling well.  This idea of forcing fluids down them to give them fill is what I'm against.  Let the calf naturally determine what it needs for fill.  That's all I'm saying.  If it's not taking in water at...
