    cloning cows

While DNA does change some overtime, I dont think the change is significant to cloning.  And I dont think mutation is always the issue when it comes to clones not be phenotypic replicas of the animals they were cloned to match.  While clones will be genetically the same, their environment plays...

    Smiling Bob

Guy posted a pic he had born yesterday...calf wasnt even dried off yet when he took the pic.  So kinda early to tell much about him, but it was a red calf that was for sure STOUT!  Scroll down you will find it!

First Smilin Bob calf *New pics*

WOW...quick getting the pic up there man.  Its really, really hard to tell anything about them at this age, but seems to be correct and have some thickness and substance...I think its gonna be interesting to see how this one turns out!

    Smiling Bob

So I have to agree, there are no calves on the ground out of him yet that are old enough to really make a good judgement.  I have heard people saying they had calves out of him on the ground for months now, and I dont think semen was offered on him early enough to get some of them on the ground...

Please watch this!! I am VERY concerned how this was portrayed!

Yeah I had seen that one, but this one read a little differently.  It was probably just somebody being a wisea** and copying it!

How to get a steer to gain more?

I agree with not leaving feed in front of him all the time, but I am afraid that feeding just once a day may be pushing it a little to get maximum gain.  I generally stick to feeding twice a day, and limit time to eat to 20-30 minutes then I pull feed.  He will learn to clean up when he has...

Please watch this!! I am VERY concerned how this was portrayed!

A friend of mine was sent a copy of a letter to the editor in a newspaper regarding this.  He is supposed to send it to me and if he does I will post the copy.  But apparantly in the letters section of that newspaper there had been an ongoing debate regarding eating meat that had included the...

Please watch this!! I am VERY concerned how this was portrayed!

I agree, I think the video was spot on with the reality of how most major slaughter facilities work.  Animals are treated calmly and with dignity and out of respect for the animal we dont waste any part of the animal.  I think its a very important message to send to the public, it may be hard...

    Is heatwave alive?

LOL...I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure that is a stock picture of Michael Jackson's Funeral Procession.

    Finish on a Heifer

Judges generally arent going to handle breeding animals, and finish isnt really important in breeding animals.  We want them healthy and in good flesh.  You definately want the heifer in great body condition going into breeding season. Not only will this increase her chances of settling, but it...

    Best Super Bowl Commercial

I was severely let down by the commercials this year.  But I think it was a blow out victory for the Doritos commercial where the guy sucks the cheese off the other guys fingers and then rips a guys pants off to get the cheese off them!

    ft worth sale on RFD

I am not sure what the amounts are but I dont think the exhibitor gets all of the money, though they do get a pretty sizeable chunk. They ussually have guaranteed amount that the champion gets, a different amount for reserve, one for breed champs, breed reserves, etc, etc.  Then they have a max...

    ft worth steer show

I understand your not talking about gimps, but stop and think about the level of competition we are talking about here.  I didnt see the show in person, I have seen some pics, but being there in person tells a whole different story.  So considering the level of competition, stop and consider how...

    ft worth steer show

I understand what everyone is saying about terminal steer shows.  What you have to remember is this is a SHOW it is not the feedlot.  The shows are supposed to represent the best of the industry, and lets face it, soundness issues do NOT represent the best of the industry.  I judged collegiately...

Fitting white legs on a black and white heifer!?

baby powder works, but I just find the touch up easier, I agree with white legs and taking your time you shouldnt need the paint to cover it, but I use it anyway cause it adds a little mass

    James H Leachman Please read

Maybe I missed something, but I read all the articles and I dont recall anyone saying he didnt know who the sire of the foals were, and there are so many because this was once a HUGE breeding operation.  Leachman stated that he didnt know where every horse was because the new landowner kept...

    registration question??

Dont quote me on this, but I am pretty sure to register in any association you are going to have to have at least one registered parent.  In a lot of associations both parents have to be registered, just not necessarily out of the same breed.  i.e. some associations have breeding up programs...

Fitting white legs on a black and white heifer!?

I have always done them the same as any other legs.  Lots of work at home to get the hair.  Then get all the hair up using an EZ Comb adhesive.  Once all the hair is going the right direction set it good using a leg and tail adhesive, then give it a few good coats of a white touch up paint.

    What Do You Think

WOW!!! Really nice bull, I happen to have handled a calf or two out of him that I really like, but again I may be biased. LOL

    County Steer

I agree your doing a really good job with him.  I think there is much improvement from the earlier pics.  I was going to say the same thing about the penis and sheath but couldnt tell if it was a penis or something in the background that was just in the right place to look weird
