    Graphic Design ?

I have a friend that I judged with in college...she graduated from Mississippi state but now lives in Indianola Iowa...she does this type of work for a company that publishes/prints several breed association catalogs, some of the show magazines(forget which ones) and does a lot of sale catalogs...

    College or No College

I agree with everyone else...do get a degree, even if it isnt agriculture related...I am personally pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, and then Doctorate in Animal Science...but its because that is my dream.  One thing I will caution all on though(I say this because of a prior post) be careful...

    Beginner Showing costs?

I didnt say I had as much hair as everyone else, I said I had good hair, as in quality, lets face it the majority of cooler shag gets clipped off before show day...we just want it there to have the hair to work with hide faults on our calves, so most of it gets clipped down...I didnt say I had...

    what do you prefer. poll

I like the blow and go type shows...but if your talking about the amount of effort needed, I dont think it matters...its funnybut even at slick shows you can tell which calves have been washed and worked regularly and which havent...and even at slick shows its vital to have healthy skin and...

MY MARKET STEER ( UDATED PHOTOS)-(UPATED PHOTOS 2)

Nice! Well then definately get him in a barn during the day, get some fans on him and work his hair, work his hair, and when you think its good, work it some more.  I think a lot of people think being able to use adhesives at shows means you can slack at home, but if his hair isnt well trained...

MY MARKET STEER ( UDATED PHOTOS)-(UPATED PHOTOS 2)

pretty nice calf, like they said, a little shallow in the flank, but he looks a little empty in the other pic so that may be it, regardless it should come with time...maybe could use a little more dimension and muscle in his lower 1/4, but he has adequate bone and he looks to be fairly naturally...

    Opinions Please

Nice heifer! Structeraly sound and has a real pretty apearance, maybe a little green and tight all the way through her rib structure and flank, but at that age I wouldnt be to concerned about that.

    Denver 2011 Display bull questions

The Herd Sire Displays are the weekend of January 15... a group of us from here at SFASU were planning to attend, but our Showteam's jackpot is that weekend so we unfortunately will not be able to! :'(

i need opinions on my calves. updated.

Ok so I think we have to remain realistic but positive. Do I think either of these calves have the potential of going out and winning anything big? Not really from the pics provided, but calves can surprise you as they grow.  I think the heifer is by far the better of the two, she is nothing...

    sick calf

The RESFLOR is really good...I had completely forgot about that...micotil is good also...but they can be pretty expensive if you dont already have some on hand....and most cattlemen I know have some LA 200 somewhere.

    sick calf

It sounds like a classic case of shipping sickness to me...and trust me the heifers will get it to.  When we move animals, whether it be from 10 feet from one stall to the next, or 1000 miles to a new home in a new state, the move causes some level of stress in the animal.  Seasoned show...

    Breaking/fitting strangeness

Sounds EXTREMELY paranoid to me...I dont understand people hiding these good animals in the barn all the time...if I owned em and theywere that good they would make it to more shows...I understand that overshowing some of them can make their joints bad and such so people keep those in the barn...

    Blind calf

Do you think he is totally blind,or just troubled? If you are thinking he is totally blind, hold your hand or finger in front of his eye and make quick movements toward the eye without actually touching the eye or eyelashes. If he is seing well then he should blink or flinch, but you have to be...

    texas state fair steers

Its hard to tell from pics, especially since it looks like the mousy steer is standing on rocks...but I personally like the paint better from these pics...they both look to be fairly powerful steers throughout...but looking at their feet I think the paint appears to have more natural base...

    Tails

I personally have been involved in this industry for almost 20 yrs...I know lots of people who use all these methods...and I understand we all want our animals to stand still and look pretty...but lets get serious...have you ever seen a calf excused from a ring for swishing its tail...have you...

    Dehorning Paste

I have never used the paste on clubbies...but have a long time ago on some commercial calves...it works and their heads look good afterwards...but that paste will eat the mamma's bag up!  As far as burning, I am currently halter breaking a beefmaster heifer that had her horns burned on the same...
