    Meyer 734 on heifers

Most the pure bred guys don't have much use for Meyer.  A simi breeder friend called him a raw boned slab sided worthless bull when used on most simi cattle of his day.  Meyer Who has been show to work well.  The reality is he flat out worked on angus and maine cattle.  i think part of the work...

    updated steer pics..what ya think?

650 now and fair in about 145 days.  You need roughly 600 to 650 more pounds on him.  I would say that you need to stoke the engine and feed the beast to get him to an acceptable finish weight.  In my opinion most county fairs are won with feed.  You need a feed program more than you need a hot...

Clubby bulls for Plain old commercial cows

Looking for 3 to 4 steers for my own kids.  Not looking to make it selling steers out of this herd.  I can buy steers anytime.  We have done so and can buy them from a good breeder.  Just wanted to try and breed my own.  Pride factor of raising your own and beating the smack talking neighbor.  ...

Clubby bulls for Plain old commercial cows

On the short list so far. Sun Seeker, Insanity (sun seeker, out of a Krytonite/Grizz cow), Stands Alone, Straight Shot (Irish Whiskey out of Whiplash's mother).  Monopoly doesn't excite me all that much on the non clubby cows but people say it works.  Jimmy the Greek will certainly power them up...

Clubby bulls for Plain old commercial cows

I have a herd of 50 commercial cows with good milking and 1300 to 1500 lb cows.  Most are Angus, Hereford, and Simmental in a mix.  I have always used pure bulls on cross bred cows going back to the 3rd part of the mix.  Usually an Angus heifer bull then the Simmental or Hereford as the other...

    Below average Angus Bull?

Good cattle are good cattle and it doesn't take a list of numbers to tell you that.  Talked to a purebred Angus breeder that was turning over his cows to keep the current pedigrees and updated EPD's running.  Then he found out he could make sim-angus cattle with those "throw away" cows that had...

    Simmental color questions....

Using color as a selection criteria is the quickest way to ruin a breed.  Good cattle are good cattle no matter the color or spots.  Single trait selection will doom any breed right there with paper breeders.  Using EPD's without looking at the cattle has made some ugly unfunctional angus cattle.

    Hereford Breeders!

Not purebred but this bull intrigues me a bunch.  Young and unproven but combines 2 proven lines.  The C17 cow is a good one.  Maternal as they get and has produced a bunch of good ones including Whiplash, backlash, Radar, Aftershock.... and the list goes on.  The bull is out of Summit 8103 so...

    Brisket Disease (High Mountain Disease)

Get them to a lower elevation.  Some Lasiks will help take the fluid off.  If I see one that looks like it is having trouble I ship them to my brother at a 1000 feet lower elevation.  Sorry to hear about the girl.  Tough loss.

    Denver bulls

What is the pedigree on Silent Knight?  I am wondering about the Insanity bull.  He is a SunSeeker out of a Kryptonite cow.  I saw him in the pasture as a baby and he looked pretty good.  Wondering how he looked in Denver.  Also Cool Whip.  Any news?

Anyone on here with knowledge of ABS red simmental bull RED IRON?

Little known bull that has worked well is a bull called Akonian AmanRa.  I have seen what his calves do.  He is a huge topped bull with some grow.  They have calved him from heifers and also used his heifers as replacements.  I think he is a redcoat son.

Any thoughts on Montego Bay and Cyrus?

I know of some Cyrus daughters.  2 of 4 didn't breed up as heifers.  The only ones in the 40 head that didn't breed up.  We fed out a freemartin heifer that was a Cyrus and she was a dream to feed.  Put her head in the bunk and went to eating.  Made a great market heifer.  Not sure on how good...

BEST RED SIMMENTAL BULL ON THE PLANET

The fact is that bull has enough maternal cow power in the bottom side of that pedigree that he just might have enough.  Goldmine produced some supermilky daughters.  The bottom side has the maternal as it should be.  I would certainly try enough of the bull to see if he worked on my set of...

    Maternal Standouts

Whiplash was a good one but seeing as there is not much semen on him and what there is can be spendy you might look at any of the full brothers.  Backlash T1, WRCC Tool, Radar, and a few others.  The mother is a Lash out of Cunia.  I am not sure which is the best.  Depends on who you ask.  The...

    Sunseeker bull

There is a sunseeker bull headed to display in Denver.  Hope someone gets a picture for us.

    Mo Magic

There are several good meyer sons that will make a clubby mama.  Try Backlash or Tool.  Both full siblings to Whiplash who was a mama maker of the best kind. Fat butt is one that I am just not sure about.  He works well on harder made cattle to soften and add hair.  He will make them stout and...

You know you are from a small town when .......

When directions to your farm include, "Turn left at the haystack any man would be proud of." When a cow is out you know the brand and can call the owner.

    livestock saying and quotes

Not enough meat in his arse to make a sandwich.  When looking at a steer with a shallow lower 1/3.  Play with all that clubby s#!t you want but don't keep any for cows.  Most maine bulls will strip the milk from a holstein.
