    maternal bulls from Duff/OCC

We run at 6500 feet and up.  The only complaint with the OCC cattle I have had is they don't PAP very well.  A good friend of mine loved his Anchor and Doctor cows that could live at 7000 feet.

    Copyright Bull

Saw a few in a Wyoming pasture.  Really liked one heifer and one bull calf.  The bull was out of a Dream On granddaughter.  Interesting breeding but it worked.

    New Hereford sire

That old C17 cow can make them great out of jersey clean up bull.  She has the cow power to stamp them.  Look at all the Meyer sons that she has made soft with some rib shape.  One of the best maternal club cows ever in my opinion.  She is the maternal grand dam of Aftershock as well.  I have...

World's most beautiful cow on display in Quebec

That is a hell of a cow.  You would need about 6 calves to keep her milked down.  Ain't much of a holstein that can't put 10 to 12 gallons a day in the pail.  Some of these girls are breaking 50k lbs a year of milk.

    what bull to use???or bulls???

I hear this all the time but the dozen sunseekers that I saw last weekend were anything but cripples.  Those calves moved with ease.  I think on non clubby females he will make a good one.  From what I saw he works best on a good legged commercial cow.

    Clubby Bull Questions

Saw 3 calves one was dead and over 130 lbs.  The other 2 were over 110 lbs.  Not going to play with him again.

    Jimmy the Greek

We have a market heifer and a market steer out of JtG.  To be honest he tends to be a little inconsistent in what he throws.  The steer is a big framed big boned black and white whale.  He will finish at about 1425 to 1450.  Just too big.  He was out of a simi angus cow with some leg under her. ...

    Which Is Best Simmi Bull?

I saw that heifer as a baby in the pen with 20 others.  That was just the one that went showing there are 8 others that are pretty darn nice.  That Louisville heifer's mother has been flushed to Fatbutt.  The combination works.  I like that Fatbutt will soften up and deepen the simi genetics.

    Inducing Heat Wave Calves

If you IV Oxytocin you can use .2 cc to make them have a letdown.  I milked way too many cows in my life and .2 cc with a 28ga needle in the milk vein and the stubborn old girls would pour milk.  I think it can help in production if the cow is holding up the milk and drying herself off.  But in...

Has anyone crossed Gelbvieh with Maine

From what I have seen the tried and tested model is a cross that picks up some Maine, Angus, Simi and sometimes a little Chi or Shorthorn.  The percentages vary but the combination is one that works.  Meyer and Who as a combination seems to work with some repeatability.  The missing link in most...

    Maine or Simmi Bull?

Go Backlash and do both.  He is out of Meyer out of a Maine cow.

I have heard rumors that the owners of the mother to Whiplash C17 is trying to get her cloned.  Don't know that for sure.

Two different schools of thought about hiefers

From a dairy background I will say that growing a heifer out on roughage and a little slower makes a better cow.  We sent our heifers to pasture in the summer and only fed hay in the winter.  We also calved at 24-30 months but that was mostly trying to avoid winter.  Those little heifer teats...

    Skidsteers/Bobcats

We put 1000 - 1200 hours a year on a machine in a dairy environment.  Not sure that you could have a harder environment to be honest.  I have never been on a Cat machine and they are likely excellent if you want to pay for the the Catitude that comes with it.  The bobcat we had was always having...
