    Skidsteers/Bobcats

    We have had skidsteer loaders since the early 80's.  We have had Gehl, Bobcat, Case, New Holland and an old Owatana for a short time.  They all have the advantages and disadvantages.  The Gehl had the best hydraulics and controls in my opinion.  It also has the worst engine hard starting harder...

    At -40 with a 10 mph breeze all waterers freeze without heat.  (dog)

    MiraFount water freezing

    I have had the Mira font and the Richie energy free waterers for years.  We are a cold climate at 6000 feet elevation.  They have never worked well with one exception.  If you have enough animals drinking then can work well.  The dairy barn had a 2 hole and 50 cows working on it.  With that many...

    Cold Hands

    The only thing you can do with gloves on is wet your pants. I am also a scoutmaster and take kids winter camping.  I have found that loose boots and gloves are as important as what the boots and gloves are.  If adding extra liners causes tightness you will restrict circulation and get cold.  I...

    black baldy calves

    Backlash and the new Tool bull are whiplash siblings that should work well.  They are Meyer out of a maine and simi angus on the bottom side.  These bulls are not as proven but Whiplash was a clubby mama maker deluxe.  I have seen some nice baldy calves out of Fat Butt.

    ~~~~Thoughts On Hereford Cow~~~~
    TFR Cyrus is a possibility if you stay hereford.  You might also try most clubby bulls.  She should put a white face on most anything and with a little simi and maine in the breeding I would think you should have a pretty good shot at a clubby Hereford.
    Ultimate three way cross for commercial feeder calves?
    I would have a herford angus cow and then a sim-angus bull.  A little shot of maine in with the sim-angus wouldn't hurt.  That old f1 black baldy cow is hard to beat in this country.  Easy breeding, easy calving, docile, good enough milk.
    When do you worry??
    My experience with down cows is that they need to stand.  I have a sling that we put on them and using a front end loader stand them up.  It helps to get them on their feet and the blood moving.  In my experience they have about a week and then they usually never get up.  We had a holstien...
    When do you worry??
    If you are looking for a recip, I would cut the losses and ship her.  A recip has to be able to have a big calf and have milk she has shown she can't do either.  I feed my calvey cows a 1/2 mile from water.  That forces them to exercise.  Sometimes it just happens as well.  LF
    Got Hair?
    This is a Jimmy the Greek out of a Meyer bred sim angus cow.  She is a big framed cow with white legs.  This is what popped out.  The word on JtG is that you need to use him on bigger frames as some will almost pud out on you.  This one is not at all that way.  He is an April calf and weighing...
    Cyrus
    As a pretty show heifer I am not sure this is the one.  She has plenty of leather in her neck and not as feminine as you would like.  She is a free martin and implanted so steery is to be expected.  I have seen at least 8 Cyrus calves now.  All are fond of the feed bunk, get on feed, stay on...
