AI available 3/4 Simmental calving ease

One Eyed Jack is also a purebred, and semen is $100 a straw. I think as far as what's available and known right now, and based on what you're looking for, these are still the three bulls I would have on the list: MCM Top Grade - homozygous black & polled, proven calving ease bull with growth...

    KLS Halfblood

First of all, any recent data I've seen would not list Simmental as a heavier birth weight breed or a harder calving breed than most other continentals, so by comparison, in general, Simmental shouldn't scare you. This bull's pedigree is pretty safe, and he ranks in the top 10% of all hybrid...

    first calf heifers

You're saying she has a vaginal prolapse when she gets close to calving?... I've seen those before. We've had cows in our herd that tended to do that, and I can't say any of them ever had any type of problems. We don't like it, but we've never done anything special to accommodate the females...

    Heifer Twin

If she doesn't look completely normal from the outside to start with, I'm afraid your hopes are probably futile. Be prepared for disappointment. With a greater than 90% chance that she's infertile, the odds are stacked against her from the very beginning. I wouldn't get way ahead of myself with...

    Heifer Twin

In over 40 years, we've had a number of sets of twins, and several have been pairs of bull + heifer. We've never tried to keep many of them because of the low probability that they would be fertile, but it is possible. I've always heard the probability was closer to 5%, so I would expect...

"Risk for infection"?... What does that mean? He thinks this risk is greater than the risks you face by inducing? I don't buy that...

AI available 3/4 Simmental calving ease

I'm curious why no Legacy? Is that the foundation blood in these 1/4 blood females? They're obviously not direct daughters of Legacy, so I wouldn't be overly concerned with that. If I was gonna double up on a bull on both sides of the pedigree, he's not a bad one to have there. Not that I would...

The TNT Axis bull looks good on paper and in his pictures...I think I remember him being heterozygous black, so we won't be using him. One bull I like that I've seen advertised this spring is TNT Punch...a 5/8 blood Tanker son. I like the Tanker calves...still goes back to Legacy, but it's a...

    How long on overdue cow??..UPDATED

I wouldn't worry about that cow at all. She might go 10 days over her due date...just watch her and make sure she doesn't need help when it's time. I wouldn't worry about her until she puts her tail up and starts her business...then she oughta have a calf on the ground in about 2 hours.

Simmental pb and Simangus sires and marketing

I haven't found anything lately that combines look and numbers like Upgrade. He has some sons out there, too, but I'm kind of a believer in going back to the source. I don't want everything in the breed to become Upgrade or Upgrade progeny like it's been with Dream On, but I think he's gonna be...

AI available 3/4 Simmental calving ease

Wow...People DO read these things! LOL Yes...We have some Top Grade babies on the ground, and he has been very easy calving. I'll share a few thoughts and comments, and these are meant to be as helpful and as constructive AND AS OBJECTIVE as I can be... 1st of all, that Felt bull does not fit...

    first calf heifers

Interesting...LOL I think you meant you've had more CALVE on their due date... I would agree that there is a genetic component that determines gestation, but I don't think that's ALL it's based on. For instance, I had a heifer last year that went 12 days over and had a huge calf...I lost him...

    dehorning older calf

Yeah...This is actually relatively young for dehorning. I would have them scooped out. When it heals up, you won't even be able to tell they were there. Just for record keeping purposes, though, you might try to determine whether these are horns or just scurs...especially if you're planning to...

Potentially Killed a Calf - Unknowingly

I would agree...I think you were as cautious as you could have been or as anybody would have been. Sometimes we just have those weird situations, and this sounds like one of those times. And maybe you did dodge a bullet. I wouldn't assume anything is wrong at this point. We had a cow several...

    first calf heifers

Exactly...the difference though is that C-sections are a last resort in an emergency situation...most people don't do C-sections unless they have to. At least, I wouldn't. I don't know of many situations when people are forced into inducing a cow into labor. What exactly does that mean..."we...

    first calf heifers

Look...I'm not trying to be a jerk. So I'm sorry if I came across that way. And I don't know it all...but raising cattle requires some patience, some faith, some common sense, and sometimes a little luck. We've all lost some...if you're gonna have em, you're gonna lose one now and then. And I...

    first calf heifers

They were due yesterday and you're worried about inducing?... Seriously? I don't even know what to say to that. If you decide you just can't wait for Mother Nature to take its course, make sure you have somebody around who is capable of doing a C section in case things don't go as easily as you...

    simsolution bull

From a practical and production standpoint, you get the most heterosis and the most breed complimentarity when you get in the neighborhood of 1/2 British & 1/2 continental. With an 80% Angus heifer that goes back to Chi x Maine, you're on the right track if you're thinking about a halfblood or...
