We also feed free choice to the heifers. I like coarse hay, like 1st cutting. All grass hay. Never had a problem with it. We have fed steers both ways, free choice and hand fed. Just depends on the steer for me I guess and how well they eat there grain and where they are at in their target weight.

He's still getting better everyday. Will have new pics as soon as I think I can take the camera out and it won't turn into a block of ice.

The equation to figure this goes like this. Take the Amps X Volts = running wattage. Now it will take 2 to 3 times that to start it. So if it's running wattage is 2000 you'll want at least a 4000watt generator. Hope this helps.

Why would you want to use 16% feed at all on beef cattle? I know that you go to the mill and the starters are hi protien but I don't know of any premixed show rations be it startes or growers that are anywhere near that. The high protien pushes the frame growth like crazy and I wouldn't know why...

I use premier 3000 for clipping head and tail but was looking for a new small set. I see a lot of andis 2 speeds out there and I think they will be what I buy. Thanks for all the information.

What are your favorite clippers to use for clipping legs, back line, etc? Small and handy clippers, what's the best? Cordless?

You want them as big as you can get them without turning into butterballs. I think it also depends on what level you are competing. At the county level size is a big deal. You can have a super fancy feminine heifer get out horsed in a hurry. Size matters.

Les Craft had a great heifer at Dale and his sale this fall that was a carrier and she still brought over $7000 not to mention a couple others. He thought she was a $10,000 heifer if she wasn't a carrier.

We feed a ration of 4#'s corn gluten 1.5#'s rolled corn per head per day when it starts gettine real cold. Costs about $0.32 per day per head with $3.50 corn for that ration. Do you keep a anti-bloat agent like 801 Buffer Plus, in your ration? Just a question. We had a calf get a little bloated and my nutritionist said we need to keep this in our feed ration. I've never had this problem but I guess safer than sorry.
