    Best Simmental Bulls right now

We used Chopper pretty heavily in '09, and were pretty happy.  Conception rates were good, and I really like the calves. He sure did stamp the calves with a darned good look. Very consistent.  We used him in a couple of flushes, and had good results as well.

    Chopper

Thanks for the comment on our red hf, LinZ.  I like her.  We had several Chopper calves.  We are pretty happy w/them.  They are consistent, moderate framed, have a nice look and pattern to them.  I'm sure using him again.  Tom R.

    heat losses in feedlots

Cattle put off a tremendous amount of heat.  They need to be able to cool down in the evenings. When we have those days where the temp/humidity/lack of air movement do not let cattle cool off at night,  creates a difficult situation.  Then multiply that times ten, twenty, thirty thousand head in...

Calberta Black Impact (all you maine gurus)

Hopefully this question isn't too redundant.  Is Calberta Black Impact a carrier for any of the dreaded genetic defects commonly discussed on this site?  On Cattle Visions site it says status for TH & PHA is unknown.

    the cooker revisted

The process would be similar to "steam rolled oats".  Many commercial feedyards steam roll corn.  It would raise (in corn) the energy level somewhere around 10% vs. cracked corn.  The starch is more "available".

Has anyone seen any Chopper calves on the ground? What do you think of the bull?

We have a half-dozen choppers.  I've been very pleased.  Moderate framed, Really nice profiled, clean-front. Thick enough for me. Not clubby thick- but sure thick enough for breeding cattle to suit me.  Birth weights have been 80-105.  I probably wouldn't use him on heifers.    He apparently is...

    What To Breed her too?

OCCA website says that the rule conforms to whatever the national breed association says.  (I believe that means she would have to be 50% simm or greater to show as a lo%.  As far as her showing at KC, she sure should have been  50%.

    What To Breed her too?

I'll try again-is she a quarter- blood or a half-blood?  I'd think that would make a difference in your bull choices, if you want to market to potential Simmental  people.  Thanks.

    What To Breed her too?

I was just curious how you were able to show her as a % simmi, when she is, according to you, one quarter simmi.  In theory, they need to be at least 50% simmental to show as a low% simmi.

    What To Breed her too?

Then how did you show her in KC as a simm?  They are to be at least a half-blood to show in an ASA sanctioned show.

    What To Breed her too?

Just a question-  You say she is by Invincible out of a simmXangus cow.  Is she a quarter blood simm?

    ABS Simmentals

For what it's worth, the Macho hfrs are quite nice uddered.  They tend to have very nice size teats and have very good placement. Iin addition, they are well attatched.  He really stamps them for udder quality. They have been making very good, easy -keeping cows for us.

    SIMMI with some butt ---

I've got a handful of choppers and they are pretty nice- moderate ,thick, clean fronted.  I'm tickled with them.

Okie St has a lot of good info about different feeds.  Go to their website, then ag science area/extension.  They have several pages of different ingredients, and their nutritional values.  They actually have some really cool, free spreadsheets for balancing rations.  Or, google " Iowa Beef...
