Anyone have any heifers off of Exar Upshot?  I have seen reports about bulls from him but wondered what his heifer calves turn out like?  Looking for something with some show appeal.

    Early Calving

Have your vet check her hormone levels.  An early drop in progesterone can lead to early labour.  If she has done this repeatedly she may need to be supplemented.  It is worth discussing with your veterinarian.

    Cow slipped on ice...advice!

Hope she comes along fine for you.  You say she is due in 1 month - just keep a close eye on her at that time in the event that she has had some injury to pelvis or spine or nerve inflammation.  If she is doing well in a few weeks she should be fine to calve out but best to keep a close eye -...

bred 7 year old cow dies

Did she have a magnet in her?  The cost of a magnet to prevent hardware is a small price compared to losing an animal (or 2 in your case)...

    Hair growing tips

so many people don't 'rinse' properly.....yes rinse down entire animal but concentrate cold water on neck/heart area (where all the major veins & arteries are) hence cooling the animal - ideally you want to drop body temp a few degrees to chill them....we will run ice cold water on the neck...

Help - calf with ear infection

Well this could potentially be much worse than just an infected ear.  A culture has been sent to the lab today to determine if we are dealing with Mycoplasma bovis.  Pending those results we may need to look into BVD in the herd also.  The heifer has developed bilateral nasal and ocular...

Help - calf with ear infection

We have an 8 month old heifer with an ear infection.  Noticed this evening with 1 ear droopy and a purulent discharge seeping from ear.  Got her into the chute and was able to clean the ear out and clip the long hair in and around her ear to let some air get at it.  Being the long weekend having...

Thoughts and Comments on Supplements for Show Heifers

Looking for comments on supplementing with the likes of Showbloom or Oxy-Gen or others for the show string.  On 'ShowStopper' currently along with pasture/hay.  Are the ads just a bunch of 'hog-wash' or are those products worth the extra $ to promote haircoat/appetite/bloom???

    Bloating Heifer calf

Never hurts to put a magnet in her.....as my vet always says "they should all be born with a magnet"....sometimes it's a real cheap way to save a lot of grief!  Good luck with her!
