Red Cattle Genetics May 2011 Catalogue

The Holmere Alastair bull would be a useful type if crossed back on to cows of Scottish type i.e. Scottish Beef Shorthorn/ Maine Anjou breeding. What would hold him back is his colouring and calving difficulty figures. If you were to go down that type of bloodline route you'd be 100 times better...

    Guess the breed?

Well guys,if I was giving the prize for first correct answer I would have to give it to Chiangus. If I was to give a prize for knowing cattle breeds by visual assessment I'd give a prize to Aussie, but for thoroughness and leaving no stone unturned I'd give it to Jaimiediamond!!!! Ah you're all...

Canadian National Junior Show/Meeting semen auction

Thanks Jaimie and Okotoks for posting the results. The Muridale Buster making big money suprised me. I would have thought there would be a fair bit of his semen around?  There were a few bargains to be had I see too, which I see a few canny shoppers bagged at very reasonable money.

    Fullblood Full French Pedigree Charolais

Hi. I disagree that Emir is destined to become a bull for the crossbreeding sector. If you look at his EBV star ratings you will see that he is in the top one percent of the breed for all growth and carcase traits, whilst also having a three star rating for daughter fertility and milk. I think...

    Checking Cattle Pictures

It's easy to see why the Nicola Susan cow is so impressive when you look up her pedigree -  a Captain Mark 27C daughter! What calf has she at foot this year and is she bred back again yet?

    Fullblood Full French Pedigree Charolais

Hi. No, Emir is by a stock bull called Cavelands Tower. Tower was imported from France as an embryo. He is sired by a bull called Nathan, and out of a cow called Image.  Tower got injured as a young bull and was going to be slaughtered, but one of my customers spotted him and saved him. He...

Royal Highland Show Male Angus Champion.

I think Edge won't do you any harm at all if you use him on moderate framed cows. He's a bull that's all about one thing, and that's figures. The Rawburn herd are very focused on breeding cattle with figures, and sometimes I feel other things get lost along the way. Their bull Rommel is the...

Royal Highland Show Male Angus Champion.

I think the reason Hoff Limited Edition has become popular is two fold. 1). He produces quality cattle, with shape and power required by the markets over here and 2). Cattle in turn sired by him carry good performance figures which makes them easy to sell. Limited Edition was a fantastic looking...

    Logo and web design

It's just amazing the prices you can get quoted when you shop around. You can be very lucky and find a good digital media/creative designer working for themselves, but more often than not though you do have to pay to get quality work done. Usually you can get all inclusive packages that will...

    Fullblood Full French Pedigree Charolais

No, LOL, obviously the bull was just  pictured with his winter coat still on, which was brushed up for his photos. He does not have a "curly" coat. Here are the most recent pics before he went to stud. He is just after shedding and is getting his new coat in.

    all time favorite shorthorn bull

Diamond Captain Marc 27C is definitely one of the most under appreciated bulls in modern times. He does so much so right. His females are absolute classics. You can mate them to any sire to create the exact type of calf you are aiming for. I am currently flushing a cow to him in Canada. It's for...

    Top 10 Shorthorn Cow Families

Frame 8 isn't big enough for ya? We need size and scale to get weight and shape for the EUROP grading in the slaughter houses over here. We need size and most importantly length, with a big backend to get premium prices. We have to compete with the Limousins and Charolais. When half your calves...

    A few Sunday snapshots

I think it's more due to my photography skills, or lack thereof than the heifer. LOL. She is just two now and is really thick as well as framey. She and her sister are probably frame score 7. 80C has bred some big cattle over here, so maybe it's the sire that brought the size to the table.
