    I have a 6 year old gizmo x 20/20 vision cow I want to get shorthorn papers on. Is there an age limit that you have to register by in the shorthorn association?

    Woody, that is a problem you run into and in that case you would just have to give them new numbers. In years where we keep a lot of heifers back we will generally just start with the year they were born and give them all new numbers but it makes it harder to keep track of cow families.

    We use grindable tags, they're easy to read in the field and we always put a tag in each ear in case one falls out. As far as numbering we use the year the calf was born as the number like this year would be 2 and then the next digits are the same as the cows so if the mother was 614 the calf...
