    Ford Pickup Owners.....PLEASE READ!

You have more patients than me, I broke down and bought a duramax with an allison transmission.  I have been a ford guy my whole life but after they went away from the 7.3 they just can't compete with dodge or chevy with their motor.

    Biggest bull or female bust

Seems likeI heard the Angus bull 5175 was bought at a production sale on his dam for like $5500, I am sure money was made on that deal.

    Why is big bad?

The Angus show animals haven't been the best example of what our breed stands for, although I think this is changing somewhat.  I remember when we wanted to compete and had heifers that were 8 frame or so we called the functional cattle "production Angus".  Now all we have are production angus. ...

    Why is big bad?

Anybody remember the Angus association add about an elephant?  Very effective (didn't say completely true) maybe made Angus what they are today (most registrations/most popular).  You can't fit an elephant in a box.

    Slick Shearing vs haired shows

Hair probably only matters with the close placing steers or heifers. It would  be better to have slick sheer shows across the board if we are judging the animal and not ones ability to fit an animal.  Are we striving for the perfect feedlot/fat steer? Hair in the middle of the summer is not a...

    Ideal rib or rump fat

We just scanned a steer that had l a little more fat than we thought he should, he is not a show steer as we sell grass fed grain finished beef.  This is the first steer we have scanned as usually we don't spend the money to scan steers.  This led me to wonder what would be the ideal rib or rump...

How and what to get calves to eat from creep feeder

No I think his butt makes those bars look small.  To answer the question we have never had a problem getting calves to eat, we put feed out when they are 3-4 months old and they eat the pellet feed when they are ready......maybe purebred Angus are just easier like that. ;)

    butchering show steers

From my experience you should get around 40% maybe a little more maybe a little less of take home wrapped/sealed meat in the freezer.  That's not taking things like soup bones or ox tail or liver etc.. but that really won't add up to much. There was someone on here recently that had a lot more...

    Reg Angus Bull for sale

He is 6-17-08 calf out of TC Total X VRD.  The cow was shown and did very well and has produced a midland calf that was champion of the NC state fair 2 years and a reserve division champion at the Eastern Regionals.  He has a weaning weight of 715 and a birth weight of 79.  We haven't weighed...

    EXAR Totally Tuned

Steaks,   I am in now way in support or opposition of the bull, but CED from my understanding is more a measure of how easy the calves come(conformity) not weight.

    Mini angus

Thanks for the responses.  I guess as a pure bred Angus guy mixing in with other breeds isn't something we would do with any breed, it just doesn't make sense for our program.  But different strokes for different folks.  Lazy G I can't argue that they finish faster but what was their finished...

    Mini angus

ok maybe bitting off more than a want here but please consider and correct me if I am wrong or at least give me some cud to chew on.  Those results and the ones above really are pretty average, when considering the weight people who like a lot of growth would thing they don't weigh nearly...

You were talking about your genestar results in regards to marbling/tenderness for your lowline bulls.  What kind of IMF score do you get from ultrasound on a 16-18 star bull?  What about ribeye sq. in.?

Anyone on SP going to the horn springs dispersal sale next weekend in TN?  Looks like a lot of quality registered angus.  What are your thoughts on the sale?  Any individuals you find particularly interesting?  Looks like many of the pictured animals may bring more than we can pay but it may be...
