I presume you didn't take a look on Shadybrook's website - I'm sure they have better pics but here is one (not sure how it will turn out):

Dream Weaver daughters look great!  Roy has bred some good ones, wish I had a field full girls like her.  Should also produce good carcass traits as Dream Weaver was excellent on tenderness when they did feedlot trials a while back.

Hi Sue & Trevor, Will you collect  RS329 for export to Canada?  I know it costs more, but I'm sure some of guys up here would like to try him.  He looks perfect sized to me, and that is a fancy heifer Sue! DRB

Anyone know if Jim Lents book is available anywhere?

    Shoshone Angus

Yeah, but grass is pretty much free!  Just stop feeding grain and using grain based genetics and switch to more grass based easy doing ones.  The Aussie's do pretty much everything on grass, same thing in Argentina, why can't we?  If you are selling direct freezer orders to your customers...

Too much Navel does it get ya?

I'm also interested in thoughts on this.  I have a very nice roan, square hipped steer, but I too think he has a bit extra navel.

Good to hear.  I bred 15 to Capiche this summer, looking for some moderate frame females.  Hope to reduce BW too, I'll let everyone know how that went when they arrive in April '11.

    halter breaking from the side

Knabe, wanted to let you know that your pics and approach were extremely helpful - it's working like a charm  :)  I was going to give up on this particular heifer, my standard approach wasn't working but she is really responding to your's.  I think it's the only way to go from now on. I take it...

    Shorthorn Question

I completely agree with you Sue - I was not knocking Sullivan's program at all, they have a clear focus and have achieved awesome results! I was applauding you for being forthright and upfront about your own program.  I think it's great when a breeder would say to a potential customer, "hey I...

    Shorthorn Question

We are revising our web page- but trust me under show heifers for sale- will be John Sullivans number. (clapping)  I applaud you Sue - that's definitely defining your breeding program (atleast what it's not)!  It's always tempting to try and have something for everyone and end up with a very...

I like this thread  :) JIT, I've used Optimum and really like the results.  On the frame score side, Optimum was listed as 5.5, Coyote has Muridale Buster 14k listed with a 57 1/2 in mature hip, so that has got to be very close to 5.0.  Judging by your excellent Mist Return bulls in the sale...

    shorthorn heifer heat detection

It is my understanding that female sperm survives longer and is slower moving.  While male sperm is faster moving and dies quicker.  If you were previously breeding earlier in the window, that might explain the higher heifer percentage, as there would be a higher number of female sperm left.  By...

Canadian National Junior Shorthorn Show and Lil' Hilltops birthday!!

Congrats Sadie!  Your heifers look great  (clapping) Hilltop, those pictures are better than the one I got in the dark at your place in April ;)  The heifers looked great then, and they look like they are developing well. David

    Nervous breeding season

Hi CAB, I've been getting probably 60-70% conception on this program.  Last year I set up 10 for embryo's, tech said 2 weren't good (late developing heifers that are gone now - don't think I can blame the prg for those 2, actually all 3 of my heifers missed, so I wouldn't try them again this...

    Nervous breeding season

What synch programs are you guys using?  I seem to get pretty good results with the timed AI,  7 day Co-synch + CIDR program  (GnRh with CIDR, PG shot, TAI 52 hrs after PG). Tried some sexed Capiche semen this year - will have to see how that goes.

An interesting cattle sale experience - What would you do.

I actually had a somewhat similar experience, bidding online at a live auction.  I bid a couple times on a heifer as the price went up, each time I was 'out', then I stopped bidding, the price went several bids higher I was 'out', I figured she was gone, but then the price came back down to my...

    donkey

Thanks for the quick helpful replies! I'm going to re-work my harness/collar and give it another try!  I take it everyone more or less starts with calves (3 months +)?  How big is too big? When the donkey doesn't look like it could easily win the pulling match?  (I would probably prefer less...

    donkey

Anyone have a price range that a descent donkey would be worth? Also, we tried using a donkey before, and felt the donkey just stood there and didn't move... any thoughts?  Standing around is fine, but I'd like her to pull the calf around a bit. Thanks!
