You should try wheat germ. I am having kinda the same problem as you. My calves will eat but will not put on fat. So I added some wheat germ and they are coming on good. It will also some shine to their hair and it is not expensive at all.

Ya well i only put dish soap in about every 7-9 days. But I bougt a couple things of clear choice. What is good for a conditioner. Would maine and tail be ok even thogh it is for horses?

What is better. Some people tell me to use dish soap while others tell me shampoo. The dish soap I thinnk would be hard on the hair since it is gresse fighting and would take the oils out, but shampoo would be really heavy. The sullivan stuff is what i like but it is pricey!
