    HELP! Halter breaking stubborn calf

We use the walk to water method. Tie them up leave them tied then try walking to water twice a day it works well for us. Start with a short walk then move it further away. We typically break calves in a week or so with this method. We have free choice hay and feed them tied during this time. We...

my steer needs to gain weight!

Why do u get a kick? Sounds like he may need to get a base ration to work from and tailor to each calf. If they are new to feeding one any help that they can get is needed. All the nutritionists I've ever talk to will come out look at the calves and help put a ration together for free so there...

my steer needs to gain weight!

I would get in touch with a nutritionist. We can't really make recommendations based on Search aaok feed ration on here. It's a good simple feed mix that can be tailored easily to your needs. I am a firm believer in free choice hay also, it's needed to keep their rumen working properly. We feed...

my steer needs to gain weight!

Well to start whoever told you shortys don't gain may be a little breed biased to a different color of hide. If you have a late July early August show you should have no problem hitting that mark. You have approx 215 days to feed that's only 3lbs a day I would say switch him over to a finishing...

Thoughts on /Reviews of stierwalt fitting clinic?

Clinics are a great opportunity to learn. When your there ask questions. Practice, practice, practice at home it's only hair it will grow back let the kids grab the clippers combs and adhesive. There is something to be said about the feeling of doing well especially if you did all the work.

    Shorthorn jr nationals

Is there a set of rules available for download somewhere. I poked around on the asa site but couldn't find anything. We are registering calves now and typically register them under our farm name but am not sure what we need for nationals. This will be our first one since it's so close to home...

What Size Trailer Should We Buy?

We have a 34' southern Classic Tri ax and have hauled 6 yearling heifers, 3 fat steers and 3 cow calf pairs so 15 head and they were stacked in full length of the floor with no room for anything that doesn't fit above the hitch. So unless your hauling 450 lbs calves it would be tough to get more...

    Aborting Calves

This may sound stupid but at the cost of feeders calves it may not be so bad to calve them out. Wean early and sell. I get it will push back theses embryos but seems silly to me.

    Mainetainer showing ?'s

Is the cow registered plus if so what percentage? That would also be a factor in her being able to show on the plus side of things.

    show steer? *updated pictures*

On a heifer your gonna clip the neck down pretty tight into the shoulder junction and try to make her look really feminine in the front 1/3. On a steer you wouldn't clip as tight as you want them to appear more masculine.
