    Shorthorn Question

Cripes, Grant.  We are talking about whether the breed will be back to #3 or #4 and you bring up shows....who cares about a darn show.  How can a breed get more registrations?  I believe that it is not though a halter, it is through cattlemen with "herds" of cattle believing in, producing...

    Shorthorn Question

Sue,  I was just relating to the original question.  Whether SH will be the #3 or #4 breed in the future in size.  The breed won't if our registrations stay at 20K per year.  That doesn't deter from each breeders ability to sell SH or SH influenced cattle.

    Shorthorn Question

I will give you my 2 cents on the original question.  Will the shorthorn breed get back to the #3 or #4 breed in size.  The answer is NO.  Why?  There are about 3 big reasons. 1.  There are very, very few breeders with over 50 cows that have any interest in the commercial bull market.  The...

Spring Heifer calf Judging Class 2010: Volume 2

After careful consideration, I have elected to place the group as follows 1.  I like her.  I can see her vulva from a far.  she looks pretty and has a small extra chin under her jaw like me. 4.  I like her.  I can find her in the dark without a flashlight.  I don't like her because she will be...

    medicating feed

Sorry DL, you are wrong about top dressing "drugs" to feed.  It is legal.  You showed the information via the webisites, but you failed to let people here know that there are type A drugs and type B drugs.  Type A  category II drugs are used at licensed feed mills.  How do you think feedlots are...

    dna companies

AJ You should have sent your steers to the great state feedout.  We just collected 135 DNA samples in western kansas last week so that when the carcass data comes in, we have the potential to vaildate against the DNA.  ASA is putting it together.

    Clipping and Torching

That number is realistic.  You can lower it if they offer someone to push cattle to you and bring them up to the tub.  If you have to push your own and get them out of the pens, you better be around the $30.00 mark.  I used to torch/clip for $15.00/hd, but that was years 20 ago.  Price...

Fittin the world one calf at a time. The look back at it all!!!!

Wouldn't say that we are bitter at the kids, I think it's more bitter at getting old.  And I am a little bitter at all the neat stuff they have today that we were spared when we were younger.  I mean, heck, if 25 years ago, we would have had fitting mats and show boxes that had wheels, we might...

best way to feed mineral to cows

Feed a free choice mineral year around.  get a decent tub, or mineral feeder.  the option of drilling holes into the bottom is excellent.  I will tell you that I oversee the manufacturing of wind and rain minerals at work and we supply 800,000 head of cattle mineral per day out of my facility. ...
