    How Early to wean

I gotta chime in on this topic.  We don't wean until calves are at least 180 days old on 95% of our herd.  This year, inputs (feed) are expensive and our grass is paid for.  Unless you can put weight on for less than 95 cents per pound, your best bet is to leave em out there with mom.  Yes, I...

    JR Conquest 62 k(shorthorn bull)

Just for fun I put a picture of our Waukaru Goldmine 2109 son on here if I can make the attachment stick.  When I get a picture of our 23G son, I'll put it on as well.  Note, the 2109 son is out of an RB Eagle 148 cow

    Steer off feed

Sometimes it is advantagous to have cattle compete for feed, this has happened to me in the past when pushing bulls really hard for a show.  When we "blow" them over the top on consumption, and they just don't want to start up again, we will turn a cow in to compete for the feed.  Most of the...

    Steer off feed

How many pounds of feed per day does he ususally eat?  What is the composition of your feed other than 7% molasses?  I assume you are feeding them in pans and not together?  Just trying to get more info.  Hope to help, would just like to have more knowledge of your situation.

    JR Conquest 62 k(shorthorn bull)

You might be thinking of JR Legacy 23G.  Twig owned him for a while, bought him from Rex Tribbett I do believe.  We have been using 23G for a few years.  He is at Marty Lovings, or at least was last season.  We have some Red Cloud females, as does Stumpy.  If Stumpy agrees with me, I would call...

    what sire?

When I looked at here pedigree, I see 3 things that stick out from a calving ease standpoint 1.  Bloodstone is a +7.7 BW sire with low accuracy 2.  On the bottom side, GR Combo is back two generations at +6.9 BW 3.  Steermaker is on the bottom side as well with a "decent" BW, but you can see...

    Time for Flies

This is from the Wellmark International website Residual insecticides, such as organophosphates, are toxic to beneficial insects, such as coprophagous flies and beetles, predaceous beetles, parasitic wasps and dung beetles. Altosid® IGR does not disrupt dung composition and does not harm...

    Time for Flies

Horn fly control in grazing cattle can be aided with the use of a mineral with MTH, or methoprene.  These are generally added into a mineral and called IGR's.  IGR stands for intake growth regulators.  The IGR's break the cycle of the fly, whereas the second hatch of flies after IGR's are...

What products and/or equipment you can't do without?

I almost forgot, never leave the ranch without aluminum cans, they serve a very important part of our every day existance ( at least my existance)  at the M Bar ranch.  At least that's what Faye just told me..................................................

What products and/or equipment you can't do without?

At my place there are a few necessary items that we cannot be without.   1.   We changed our ranch name to the "dead battery, flat tire ranch", so two necessary items are jumper cables and an air compressor.  We have never loaded up a trailer to go to a show/pasture without having to kick...

You can try Bar S in Paradise Kansas.  I believe their web address is barsangusranch.com.  They have a nice herd of charolais that will be competitive in the ring and priced within reason.  You can also talk to Wooden Cross Cattle Company,  their website is woodencrosscattleco.com.  They are...
