    Scramble heifers

What are the ages of the calves?? Are the halters provided or do the kids bring their own? Are the calves that are drug to the square, the calves that they show, or do they get monies based on who was first into the square? Just a few more details would be great.

Long After Becoming Meat, Prized Steer is at the center of a Legal Beef

Well your pic is banned!!! LOL.... Don't jugde a book by its cover. I'm actually one of the nicest persons, and not just saying that. I'm not that old but have kids, and was raised in 4-H. I just hate that parents aren't teaching their kids to be great persons. Our world we live in.... We have...

Long After Becoming Meat, Prized Steer is at the center of a Legal Beef

The level that persons will stoop too..... Nothing is ethicial anymore, no one has values!! As parents we need to set examples and raise up standing children. How does cheating and lieing do that? It makes me sick!!

    Running yearlings on grass

We were just considering doing that exact thing yesterday. Just got a new lease, for a steal, and could hold quite a load of feeders...... The lighter stuff round here is selling for $1.60, something like that.... Really considering taking in a load of lightweights.

Do not support the National 4-H

National 4-H has a facebook page, and much of the uproar can be read on their page, as well as, links to articles and letters from Nat 4-H on the matter.  http://www.facebook.com/#!/4-h?ref=ts My personal opinion on what happenend is that 4-H was deceieved by HSUS and what they offered to...

    Calving ease bulls

We have some SS Goldmine calves, from Simmi cows. One we kept a bull for a while, he was put out to pasture with some gray's, produced some stout red calves that went to auction and fetched a good price for reds. The females that  we have had are thick hindends, deffinately cow looking, have...

What to do with unhappy heifer?

We had a heifer calve twins just about a week ago. If the twins were seperate she was good, but if both were near or up at the same time, the bull calf she tossed around. We said forget it, and brought him in out of the field. He was aout two days, and had been eating some, but not a lot. He is...

Help please, what the heck is it and what do I do for it!!!!

I would agree about not being ringworm.... More like rain rot, oak fungus, along those lines. Usually wash in antifungal soap, and use betedine scrub topically and leave. Horses get the same type of thing. Nolvasan is another great disinfectent for these types of things.

"MY TURN" Information by Brad Hook.....please read.

I thought the same thing, she looks like a bull. In my opinion she doesn't fit my ideal of a female that would be desireable. This too me is an example of being so caught up in muscle and power to fit the club calf phenotype. Seems that we have strayed from the more important female...

Thoughts on Murray Grey Breed for Show Cattle

I would agree with the above mentioned. There is a rancher who had Murry influence in his cattle. We have picked up a few from time to time and added to our commercial herd. Crossed with an Angus, they make great cattle and that's not just coming from how they look. Carcass quality is right up...

    What would you do??

In my opionion the cow is doing ok. She is eating, drinking, in a barn isolated from the rest of the herd. We have spoken with a vet about the situation, and we are doing what we can. I am not a vet, and I trust the vet that I am using. The environment for our cattle is great. Irrigated...

    What would you do??

We know that the cow will probally not get back up. We are mostly waiting on the calf to have as much time as possible to bake. As far as feed goes, we figured out already what happenend. We feed alfalfa, high in calcium, got given a load of rye grass that was poor for horses so we fed that...
