Is there such a thing as.....

I've been in the club calf business since 1976. I have dealt with the neighbor across the road and some of the big "steer jocks" in the nation. I have only been burned ONE time. That time my intuition told me to walk away but I didn't. Long story short trust your instincts.

DOT regulations in Iowa about pickups with trailers

In Colorado even if you are just driving a 1 ton pickup with a gooseneck hooked on you have to have a DOT number. Then after that you have to have an annual inspection done on your rig that costs you money as well as a physical on the driver(s). Thats if you are only hauling for yourself. If you...

What are your thoughts on this heifer?

I DON'T like her! Send her to me and I will dispose of her for you. Just kidding. She's a nice heifer. The kind I wouldn't have any problem putting back in my herd. Congrats

    Showmanship scares me

Practice showing your calf every night at home. Have someone ( dad, mom, brother, etc. ) act like the judge. Have them ask different questions covering all your bases so when you get in the ring you are able to answer with confidence. Have them walk around your calf and feel him to get him used...

    SHOWMASTER FEED

Why do you say that CAB? Those flakes are dried before they are mixed into a ration. crystalcattle is right. We have done trials on flakes vs. whole corn vs. cracked corn and the cattle have always done the best on the flakes. I think the reason most people that mix their own feed use cracked...

    3 way carcass class

In our county on tag day business people and individuals show up and bid on each calf for our carcass contest. The calves are then shown at the fair in the steer show and placed just like any steer show. They then go through the premium auction. Kids get the premium and the calves are then sold...

You know you are from a small town when .......

When the town cop quits and the school crossing guard is promoted to replace him. First crime under his watch, someone stole the trash can from the local carwash. Crime still unsolved 10 years later. ( True story from a neighboring town. )

Fitting is Critical and I need help with fitting my kids calves

savaged is right. Hair MUST be trained to get the best results. Especially legs.  We use plenty of kleen sheen, roto brush and ice water on legs. Then blow, blow, blow, and then blow some more before, during and after. Your blower is your best friend. Keep their legs clean. Mud and manure are your...
