We use a rope about 2 foot long with snaps on each end. Sometimes they will kick a calf but we have never had a calf injured. With a short rope like 2 foot the calf can't get back behind the donkey to where it can get kicked very hard.

I would only have him on Zilmax the last 20 days. Any longer than that and you are just throwing your money away. Remember there is a 3 day withdraw period.

I agree with both KCK and coachmac. It would be hard to clean and you would throw alot away picking manure out of it. Between the initial cost and replacing what you throw away I'd look else where.

We have bed cattle down on turf before mainly at sales. It always worked good for us but you do have to secure it down so it won't scoot and you need to be there so when they crap you can pick it up right away. When we get home we throw it over a fence and power wash it and let it dry.
