Limestone Trifecta 714 , any daughters out there ???

Used him on 3 simxangus heifers a couple years ago. Had 2 heifers born unassisted, pulled a really big bull calf that survived. All 3 had some white on their face. One of the heifers is now bred to JSAR titan. We will see what kind of cow she will make.  Here is the only picture I have.

    orphaned calves as show animals?

Have you seen pics of some of these clubby mothers? They don't contribute a whole lot once the calf is born. (lol) Seriously, I raised a calf from a 200# orphan to a 1300# winning steer.

    Spring time and the grill!

Grill year round on a mix of lump and briquette charcoal. Lump burns way hotter and gives a really good wood flavor and the briquettes stay hot longer.  Sea salt and fresh cracked black pepper. There is a huge difference in that and plain table salt/pepper

    Black Angus Bulls

For what its worth I did a bunch of research on CE Angus sires for our clubbyxangus heifers to be bred in a few weeks and I think we have decided on Brilliance and JSAR Titan. Looked at several of the Final Answer sons also.

    Houston livestock show

I don't want to stir the pot or get off topic so feel free to answer this question by PM or point me to a source for the answer, but who is eligible for a scholarship from what I assume is the HLSR "foundation" or whatever the scholarship arm is called? I was aware that the GC got a flat amount...

    Help! Ringworm

We have had great results by aggressively scraping the affected area and applying nu stock cream. http://www.nustock.com/ Its sulfur based so I'm sure there are a number of similar products out there. New hair growth in just a few days.

    CARCASS DATA ?

After a fairly extensive web search I can't find a source that says the correlation of REA to weight is any different for a 2000# animal than it is for a 1000# animal. REA is rarely measured on slaughter bulls/cows as their carcass quality is expressed in % lean. I guess that is why most of the...

    CARCASS DATA ?

My experience with carcass data (actual and ultrasound) has been on finished steers and heifers so that would be cattle in 11-1350 range and mostly 14-18 mos of age. In my uneducated interpretation of the data on your bull, it's best use would be compared to other 2 yo bulls on comparable...

    School me on Cameras

I'm not a photographer by any means but we bought a Canon T3i last year and I can honestly say it one of the best purchases we have made in while. Takes great pictures of everything-still family photos to fast moving action shots. Got some great pics of my boys on a trip to a shooting preserve a...

    Cotton seed hulls

So that is why I see all these cornbelt kids working their show steers in the summer wearing shorts. No pigweed in your pens. Pigweed has been in our lots and feeding areas for as long as I can remember.

    Cold weather gear

As you can glean from most of these posts-Don't wear anything cotton. Especially close to your skin. Under Armor or any of the the other "technical" base layers are great and so far ahead of cotton thermals. There are some wool base layers out there that are supposed to be anti itch. All are...

    Best squeeze chutes, why?

We just bought our 4th WW in my life time so I guess we like them pretty well and run lots of stockers through it. Works great on horned cattle and transports easily if you have the need. Definitely a head knocker though. My has a Palco. The best non hydraulic chute I've seen. Tall enough to...

    Draxxin, Micotil, Nuflor

Some of the differences of opinions by vets and producers comes from our different backgrounds. In backgrounding operations that deal with "high risk" (co mingled, sale barn, high stress) calves-most receiving regimens include a preventive antibiotic. Most, including myself, think this is where...
