    Estrus detection aids

Estrotect-We curry comb the area really well, wipe the are with included gauze rag (not really sure what that does), spray a little tail adhesive on and slap the patch on. They stay on for months.

    IGR??

Works as part of a total fly control program-tags, back rubs, sprays etc. How well it works also depends on your neighbors fly control program...or lack of.

    Unwalkable Steer

If you have 2 steers tie them together. Metal halter? Have someone walk behind him and pop his heels with a buggy whip? A change of scenery will help. If you are walking him in his "home" pen. Get him out in the yard or open pasture.

    What kind of Generator?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0056BYP86/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 I just bought one of these. Used it at 2 shows. Runs quiet. Remote start is the bee's knees. Not a Honda but for $400 bucks delivered to my door, you can't beat the price.

Feeding a commercial calf to show quality questions ????

Our show is in May and we use Feb and March calves. They grade choice, weigh 12-1400 and gain 4+ lbs/day for the 150day test. We usually have the opposite problem of them getting too big and having to hold them back. We showed commercial Angus type steers for years, but the last couple of years...

Need advice - Breaking a calf

I would say some calves are unbreakable. I have similar experience as you. Broke and showed my own steers as a kid, helped my brother and a co-worker's kids in between that time and my boys got 4-h age. They are now 14 and 17. So like you, I've broken 100+. We have always done it the hard way...

    Carpe Diem ?

Used on 3 PB Angus Mitty heifers. All 3 unassisted and really nice. Only complaint is that we got no chrome except a little white on the belly. Was hoping for baldies. Used him on a Macho daughter and it just didn't go well and we will leave it at that.

    Dying hair

Not like you are going to make a white calf black with it. Just gets rid of the red tint some black cattle have. Use it all the time. We have no rules against it. No different than black finisher, or black mousse.

    What would you do?

3 calf crops into our PB Angus experiment, I would say go with a majority of Meyer sons. You can pick, but Macho is gonna be tough to beat. Maximus is great also but you are looking at semen cost of $50 compared to $30 for Macho and I think a saw a sale on Climax at one of the distributors...

    Fuminator

Anybody ever try one of these on a calf. Been searching here for shedding advice and tools. We have a couple of splotchy calves. Combing and rinsing daily. Haven't tried the grill brick yet. This made me think of the furminator we use on our lab. Thought we'd give this a try before ordering a...

    Simmental Cross?

We are in the middle of our third calving season of our PB Angus based attempt at building a club calf herd. 1st year we bred 6 PB Angus cows to Macho. Outstanding results with 4 out of 6 having some form of white marking on the face. 4 of the steers were shown in our area steer show of 170 hd...

    Rock In a hard Place

If you don't want to cause problems, have your boss give you the $550 and take it where ever you want and pay the difference. My 2 cents
