We just had 6 Maximus calves born out of PB Angus 2nd calf cows. The calves are great but I would think they would be a little big for heifers. Just a guess but 5 of the 6 were in the 100# range.

We do a showbook/program with pics of the kids with their calves and sell ads. Its a great way for those who won't/can't sponsor a calf to participate. A lot of family members do good luck/congrats kind of ads.

I second the resflor gold. Draxxin as a treament has not worked that well for us, but we mass treat as prevention all incoming cattle with it. Baytril is another option.

Great posts guys. You can't buy an eye for good cattle. Not everyone has it, but those that do have an advantage over those who can only evaluate quality by the size of the price tag.

With 10 mos to the show, I would switch to a grower. I would think a finisher would be pretty hot for a 5wt. I would feed him whatever he will clean up and increase just a little each day. For most cattle it will take 6-7 lbs of feed for a pound of gain.

I have owned 2 Dmaxes. An 03 and an 05 that I still have. As already stated earlier, the transmission is great. No mechanical issues with either. The 05 has almost 100K on it.

In our area we do not have the number of shows available for steers that other areas of the country have. We have a county show (45-50 hd) and 2 weeks later we particpate in an 8 county terminal show (150 hd). This show is well supported by the community as our calves bring 40-60 cents above...
