Need help with cow with no milk!!

The calf is quiet and appears to have energy - running and bucking.  She just seems to be sucking all the time, going from one teat to the other like there is nothing coming out.  I have attached a pic taken yesterday - she is drawn.  (sorry for the trash in the pic - due to all the rain had to...

Need help with cow with no milk!!

She never got as fat as I would have liked.  Here is a picture of her just after calving and a pic of her bag.

Need help with cow with no milk!!

Our brahman show heifer had her first calf about 10 days ago.  She is taking good care of the calf, but the problem is - she has VERY little milk.  The calf appears to always be hungry and looking for milk.  We have the pair in a large pen and have put the momma back on feed - she had been in...

    HELP with injured newborn calf

Have had a handful of calves do this.  They all corrected themselves after a few days to a week or so.  If it's having a hard time keeping up with the cow, you might want to pen them to make sure calf is nursing often enough.

    opinion on market heifer

Just curious - why are you showing Market and not breeding?  Nice heifer BTW!

    tell me what you think?

He needed to be on a good grower or conditioning feed from the start.  The straight corn is not going to do him any favors - make him sloppy in my opinion.  Is there a min. weight at your July show?  My guess is that he's going to be in the light weight class.  I would gradually switch him over...

    Steer in need of fat?

I usually get my SRB at Tractor Supply - if you have one close by.  Worth checking.

    Steer in need of fat?

Ditto on the Stabilized Rice Bran.  He definitely needs more cover.  When is your show?

    Feeding plans

He needs a complete feed; a finisher of some kind.  You need to talk to your adviser of feed dealer close by and find a good complete feed.  Not sure how he is going to look on corn alone.

    Feeding plans

Are you just feeding corn & protein?

    vitaferm

Are you asking about Sure Champ or Vitafirm products in general?  We have been feeding SureChamp to our show steers and heifers for several years now and love it.  We are in South Central Tx. and start feeding steers in April, just when Texas is heating up.  We have not had a calf go off feed...

    When is it considered overkill?

Our kids have always entered our local show with the idea of making a profit.  We buy the best animal we can, knowing approx. what it will cost to feed it, and the potential sale price in the end.  We are trying to teach a life lesson - buy within your means, work as hard as you can, and enjoy...

    109 days to get there

Looks like a nice light or medium weight calf.  Don't push him too hard and have him go off feed - then you've taken several steps back!  I would give him Stabilized Rice Bran in place of the Show Bloom.  Just my opinion.  The SRB will put the finish on him quick.  Post pics as you get closer...

Suggestions on what to breed I 80 heifer to

Done a little looking around, and seem to like Mercedes Benz for his front extension and length of body.  Worried about JJ giving her trouble calving.  Anxious to see the Comfort ZOne and Gucci calves.  This heifer is pretty stout - added a front shot.  Thoughts....?

    Adding in Barley

I have found that Barley does put a nicer/ smoother finish on them than corn.  I never decreased the corn in the ration, just added a little more barley.  If you are wanting/needing to add cover quick, I would use Stablized Rice Bran.  It lays down a nice smooth cover failry quickly.  I get mine...

Suggestions on what to breed I 80 heifer to

The cow is an Alias.  This heifer is a Maintainer, so we would like to be able to register her offspring as well.  I would like to clean up her shoulders and she tends to roach her back when she walks as well.

Suggestions on what to breed I 80 heifer to

    Club cab front leg issues

If the calf is gentle, and builds your daughter's confidence level and she gains experience --  it's all good!!  My son had a steer that bucked over in the knees as it got heavier.  He was dog gentle and showed like a dream.  He won showmanship with him every time he went in the ring.  My son...
