Show wether with water on his knee - should I buy?

I am looking at a show wether to buy for my daughter to show.  He is well muscled and has a good top, but has water on one of his knees.  The seller says it will go away.  I am not familiar with goats and their issues, hoping someone on here could help me.  I would never buy a steer with swollen...

    Crazy Calf Characteristics

A friend had a handful of calves born last year like that.  First couple he didn't realize what was happening until they died and he realized they had no opening.  Never thought to ask him if the others survived.  First time I had heard of it.  The only reason he told me about this is that we...

What is usual charge for clipping a hog in Texas

I have a high school boy coming to clip my daughter's hogs before her show.  He will not give me a price - but I definitely want to pay him.  We will have the hogs washed and dried and he will be using the FFA's clippers.  What is a fair price to pay him??

Any one use Keep N on? What did it do??

Thinking about using it on my daughter's hogs this year?  Wondering if it actually does what it says?  Does it make the animals hyper or hard to handle?

Infection at castration site of show steer . PLEASE HELP MY SON.

At this point, there is obviously a nasty infection going on, that is now causing fever, and affecting his appetite.  Now is not the time for trying things that may or may not work.  As suggested: TAKE HIM TO A VET!  Many of these suggestions would have been great a 3-4 wks ago -  but not now. ...

how do you get a steer to walk

Remember when you put pressure (pull) on the halter, make it constant.  Don't do the tug, release, tug release.  Put constant pressure on the rope and release as soon as the calf steps forward, and reward him with a pat and verbal praise.  Then repeat.  Then repeat.  Then repeat.  You want the...

    Judge underestimated my steer...

He looks light, an extra 200+ lbs would have made a world of difference on him.  Don't get discouraged.  Take what you learned and get ready for the next one!

    Cow Hide Rugs

I wish I had this info. back in March.  We were trying to have the hide from my son's grand champ steer tanned for him - he graduated this year so last year to show. Everyone was quoting us $500. and up.  We passed as we could not see spending that amount.  I would have gladly paid $200.00...

Anyone ever successfully treat a calf with tetanus??

We vaccinated cows/calves about 3 wks. ago and banded the bull calves.  All should have recieved a tetanus.  Tuesday evening we found a calf stretched out, unable to get up.  Hauled him to the vet, and he was diagnosed with Tetanus.  Vet says only a 20% chance of survival.  We are giving...

    Deformed Calf?

My neighbor had 3 calves born earlier this year that looked and acted normal but had no anal opening.  The first two he did not catch until they died after several days, and he inspected them and realized the abnormality.  The third he put down at birth.  I think it is strange that he had 3 born...
