Video on CNN of Animal Abuse Warning

Seen this video on CNN of abuse taking place at a ranch in Texas, they are hitting calves over the head with hammers/pick axes.  Its very disturbing.  I live on a ranch and have all my life, we put animals down all the time when there is something wrong with them and its clear they are in pain...

How much snow did you get April 2- 3 2011

We got about 12" of snow.  We have seen signs of spring a couple times but Winter just does not want to give up.

    Canada Shorthorn People.

No one appointed me the spokesman for the entire country of Canada (by the way we are a country and live on the same continent as you, if you look at a globe you might see that) and all I was doing was answering the questions that you had posted earlier.  I do agree with you that I will never go...

    Canada Shorthorn People.

In western Canada we don't feed corn we feed barley (you should have googled that to), when you see a steak with white fat on it there is a pretty good chance that it came from Western Canada.  Funny thing when we were in Orlando this past month we went to a fairly fancy restuarant and in there...

Who thinks this is the same calf????? I am not impressed!!!!

I don't think we have the full story here but I wonder why someone would by a bull and not insure him as soon as the sale is done.  Was the bull certified by a vet as a breeder?  I know thats hard on some of these younger bulls b/c of the lack of being able to do a good semen test but alot of...

    Semen thawing techniques

We have always thawed in the cow and have always got between 80-90% conception rate.  I learnt it from a old boy who has AI'd since the start of AI'ing and he said dont let any semen companies sucker you into buying those fancy thawing machines. LOL.  I geuss with our conception rate we wont...

    Comments please...Update

I really like the looks of the heifer, I admire her depth of body and her profile picture looks great.  She looks like a typical six mile bred female, with that being moderat framed but with loads of capacity.  We bought a bull at there sale this year and can't wait till next year when we get...

Alpha mannosidosis - old defect returns

I seen this on Brylor's website yesterday and was suprised at how many there were.  There are a couple bulls on there that were promoted pretty hard and used by alot of breeders so it will be interesting if there is alot of testing done on these sires progeny.

Calving Ease, Birth Weight and EPD's

I have found these discussions very interesting. I remember when we were in the shorthorns we also had our purebred red angus cattle.  When we would get our epd's for the shorthorns we  couldn't make any sense of them but we always submitted our weights bc we always preached that all the...

    Sullivans Blower

We had a sullivans blower do the same thing, we learn to use our foot very well also. LOL.  We ended up changing the plug and it fixed it also.

What to breed RA cow to?

Check out the new bull that semex has Red Lacy MC Detour.  There is a picture of him on lazy mc's website.  He is a neat looking bull and i really like his genetics.

What to breed RA cow to?

I really question why every one is using Mullberry.  I geuss it depends on who you are marketing to but our commercial customers around us do not like cattle like Mullberry.  I find the mullberry's are not that easy doing, seen a few huge bred heifers, every buddy has talked about the good...

What to breed RA cow to?

I would use sakic (if you can't tell from previous posts hes a fav of mine).  Some other bulls that I sure like the looks of is the Lazy mc smash genetics have always impressed me.  A new bull in the brylor semen sales is the Cash bull that Soo Line owns, have seen alot of nice calves out of him...

    Calving ease Red Angus

I would use Sakic, we have a few sakic calves from last year and am very impressed.  All the calves were born under 85 pounds and unassisted (like every red angus we ever had except one that was backwards).
