Here is a a calf who had a 63 pound birth weight out of a first calf heifer.  His mother is a Final Solution x Vortec and he is sired by Elbee Throwback.

I do not care who you are that is funny.  You know over here in the foot hills of the Ozarks we have never had a PETA protest.  If we did I think I could sell tickets as it might be very entertaining.

They look really solid to me.  Good ribbed calves that are good in thier lines.

Updated picture of Freedom.  He is 10 months old in this picture and weighing around 1000 pounds. He is on track to have a 1150-1200 pound yearling weight.  Not overwhelming but considering he weighed 68 at birth I feel like that is pretty good.

The Answer bull is looking really good.  We weighed him the middle of August and he weighed just over 1000 pounds, he is on track to have a 1250 yearling.  Hopefully we will have him right at 1300 at Louisville.  He is really big hipped and super sound.  How did the Looker bull hold together...

I would start feeding it a few days before the show.  We feed it year round.  We feed about 3-5 pounds per day.  We feed it because they really like it and on show day we feed all they will eat and it helps give them a full look.

Very few things are more rewarding than winning with a home raised one. Being a left over just makes it that much sweeter.

Thank you for all the replies.  They are both purebred shorthorns. The white heifer mother is daughter of a Dividend x NPS Mirage son and an impact shaker daughter. The spotted heifer goes back to the old Bedwell bunny cow family. 

Here is two spring born heifers my son rasied this year.  They are out of a bull he raised and out of cows he raised.  He is the breeder on both sides of the pedigree.  Not to bad for a 11 year old.  Which one do you guys like the best. He will most likely keep one to show and sell the other.

Most of them will sell the photo they take and that is how they make money.  If you are having a large jackpot call one that is close and if they do not have a conflict I am sure they will be glad to come.

We once had a daughter of the night mare cow.  Won her class at a Jr nationals. By far the biggest boned biggest footed cow I ever owned. She ended up being to hard keeping and got sold.  I do not think she could have put her foot in a 5 gallon bucket.

We work very hard with our kids and their cattle to get them to set up without a stick.  Then we only use the stick on the front feet and to scratch their belly or brisket.  with a little work you can train your calf to walk into place and never even really need the stick.

It is very hard to establish a market for calves.  We struggle with the same problems you are having.  The best advertising is getting a calf in good hands and having it look good and win.  Then they will come the next year but you have to have some thing be competitive every year.  The other...
