wideness in the butt of a heifer

Keeping working on getting her hair going, and then clip her legs down to make it look like she's wider in the hips. Make sure to blend it smoother than you would for a bull.

will maine/angus cross make good clubby mamas

I think the maine/angus cross is one of my favourite crosses for making those clubby mother's. The angus should really body down and moderate the maine, while the maine will add the bone and thickness. Breed those back clubby and there's your show steers. I have 2 of my best maine cows bred...

    Favorite Maine Anjou Bull

Is a grain fed bull worth it out on pasture?

Great point, I've had a few clubby heifers come home and fall apart as cows, so I bet this happens all the time with over-fed bulls. I do think you can get around this by being a smart educated buyer as well as physically being at the sale. Pictures and video's are great to eliminate poor...

What can you tell me about Maine cattle?

Maine steers are typically very thick in the hip and loin, the thickest off any breed I've had experience with. They lack depth of rib, and often have too much frame, but a maine cross steer is ideal in my opinion. This is a guideline of crosses that I like to see in my steers. Maine...

    Hardiest cattle breed

I would have to say Scottish Highlands for the cold climates, up here in Canada they can survive the winters by digging for weeds, sticks and bark. Due to their multiple long coats of hair they don't need high energy diets to fatten up for the winter and they don't even need shelter. They're...

    bloating

The easiest way to deal will bloat is to shove a piece a garden hose into there stomach to relive the gas, it takes about 1 minute and its like deflating a balloon. I had to do it a couple times this spring already on a steer calf and its worked quickly and easily. Inserting the hose through a...

    Cleaning an aluminum trailer

We use an oil-fired hot water pressure washer. Crank it up real hot, and blast away at the entire trailer inside and out; its completely spotless. Throw some citrus de-greaser in there and you can eat off of it; not that i would lol.

    heat wave ?

Eat the females, they will disappoint as mothers, they don't milk at all. The only reason I see for keeping a HW female is if she's good enough to flush, then let Simmental females raise the ET's.
