    red angus heifers~opinions welcome

We decided we'll keep her in the pen til show registration time before kicking her out.  She's one of those heifers where one time you look at her she looks great, and the next - just above average.  Maybe another more month of feed will change that. We haven't had much for issues with NK's...

    red angus heifers~opinions welcome

The top one is a Norseman King heifer, the 2nd is a Fat Tony ET.  The other Fat Tony heifer wouldn't stand for pictures, she was too busy trying to chase the dogs.

    red angus heifers~opinions welcome

We rough clipped our red angus show calves this weekend so we can see their progress a little better. These are just a few pictures, the other 2 open heifers didn't want to stand real well for pictures. Opinions welcome We're debating on whether or not to kick this one out of the show pen...

Pics of Red Angus ET Calves - Update (last page)

Thanks everyone!  I was hoping I wasn't too barn blind.  We will have 6 open heifers go into the show pen to be put on show feed and broke.  Then we'll weed them out after a while.  I'm a little disappointed in how the 3rd one pictured, she's my favorite.  The 2nd one is a bigger framed heifer...

Pics of Red Angus ET Calves - Update (last page)

Update 10-2: We're thinking of taking these heifers to some breed shows.  Will they compete?  It's been about 2 weeks since weaning.  These heifers will go on show feed hopefully by the weekend. They are all ET calves except for the 2nd one.

Pics of Red Angus ET Calves - Update (last page)

I was only able to get 3 to cooperate.  With the heat we've had, they are a little shrunk up. First 2 are the natural heifer, I couldn't get her to look forward since the dog was running around.  The second 2 are an ET heifer, and the last is a half sib - Fat Tony sired out of a Six Mile cow...

Pics of Red Angus ET Calves - Update (last page)

Thanks for the opinions.  I will try to get better pictures of the calves soon, we will be breaking all the calves out of her to take to some state fairs later this fall, so hopefully I can get some better profile and butt shots. They're kind of going through the awkward growing stage right...

Pics of Red Angus ET Calves - Update (last page)

These are purebred Red Angus Red Northline Fat Tony heifers, born in February.  I'm going to try and get more pictures, since there's 6 ET more calves, but with them being in new grass, they don't want to stand still. 1st pic is the donor 2nd and 3rd pic is the natural heifer 4th and 5th are ET...

    guard donkeys

We have a guard/calf-breaking donkey.  Got him about 3 years ago in the fall as a yearling, and the first calving season he was out there he wanted to stomp the newborns, so we had to separate him from the cows.  After the calves were a couple days old, he didn't bother them.  He was perfectly...

    Any crop farmers out there?

Here on the MN/IA border, we've had cold, rainy days for 2 weeks.  Got 3-5 inches of snow yesterday.  Sounds like it's supposed to warm up this weekend and the beginning of next week.  Everybody has all their seed and equipment ready to go and now just waiting for the ground to warm up and dry out.

    Best bull in each breed

Redfern, I would have to agree with B571.  Rambo is a good one also.

    Disrespectful teacher

Before my family moved to a more rural community, I went to a school where I was the only kid who had livestock. I went to the State Fair, Ak-Sar-Ben, and Denver every year since 4th grade to show. I was met with resistance in Junior High and my Freshman year of High School (moved after freshman...

    Red variations

In my experience... Dark red bull x dark red cow usually has dark red calf, dark red bull x light cow goes either way. However, we did breed a dark bull to a medium red cow and got a calf that is the color of the old orange simmentals.  Don't know where that one came from.
