We decided we'll keep her in the pen til show registration time before kicking her out.  She's one of those heifers where one time you look at her she looks great, and the next - just above average.  Maybe another more month of feed will change that. We haven't had much for issues with NK's...

We're located approx. 15 miles north of Blair, NE.  Our website is on my profile.

The top one is a Norseman King heifer, the 2nd is a Fat Tony ET.  The other Fat Tony heifer wouldn't stand for pictures, she was too busy trying to chase the dogs.

We rough clipped our red angus show calves this weekend so we can see their progress a little better. These are just a few pictures, the other 2 open heifers didn't want to stand real well for pictures. Opinions welcome We're debating on whether or not to kick this one out of the show pen...

Thanks everyone!  I was hoping I wasn't too barn blind.  We will have 6 open heifers go into the show pen to be put on show feed and broke.  Then we'll weed them out after a while.  I'm a little disappointed in how the 3rd one pictured, she's my favorite.  The 2nd one is a bigger framed heifer...

Update 10-2: We're thinking of taking these heifers to some breed shows.  Will they compete?  It's been about 2 weeks since weaning.  These heifers will go on show feed hopefully by the weekend. They are all ET calves except for the 2nd one.

I was only able to get 3 to cooperate.  With the heat we've had, they are a little shrunk up. First 2 are the natural heifer, I couldn't get her to look forward since the dog was running around.  The second 2 are an ET heifer, and the last is a half sib - Fat Tony sired out of a Six Mile cow...

I really like the bottom heifer.

Thanks for the opinions.  I will try to get better pictures of the calves soon, we will be breaking all the calves out of her to take to some state fairs later this fall, so hopefully I can get some better profile and butt shots. They're kind of going through the awkward growing stage right...

Here on the MN/IA border, we've had cold, rainy days for 2 weeks.  Got 3-5 inches of snow yesterday.  Sounds like it's supposed to warm up this weekend and the beginning of next week.  Everybody has all their seed and equipment ready to go and now just waiting for the ground to warm up and dry out.

In my experience... Dark red bull x dark red cow usually has dark red calf, dark red bull x light cow goes either way. However, we did breed a dark bull to a medium red cow and got a calf that is the color of the old orange simmentals.  Don't know where that one came from.
