    Which is better?

Thank you all for your advice!  I may only be 22, but growing up on a dairy/beef/hogs/grain farm has taught me sooo much already! I know I have a lot more to learn!  This forum has been so helpful just in the months I have been on here!  Again...thank you all!  I look forward to getting on here...

    Which is better?

I have been pulling calves since I was 13. I was always told to put the strings high on the leg. I had a really hard pull a couple of days ago, a monster of a bull calf out of a heifer! Well....I broke one of his legs  :(  Was I taught wrong? Is it really better to pull from a lower point?  God...

    2012 bottle calf price?

Holy Moly!!!  Growing up and working on a dairy and selling bottle calves all my life...I cannot see asking somebody for that kind of money for a bottle calf when milk replacer is as expensive as it is!  Here we buy the good stuff....we pay near $77 for a 50 pound bag!

    Heifer Calving

I have a Grizzly x Maine cross and Aftershock x Irish whiskey daughter, both are bred to Ali.  I am not feeding them very hard, so I'm hoping the calves are just pee-wees.  The Aftershock heifer is a very long and broody.  And I actually just came back feeding and saw what I didn't want to...

    Heifer Calving

I have grown up mainly around dairy cattle.  Our beef cattle were down the road at my grandpa's house....so I have never been able to witness the changes a beef heifer goes through while pregnant and shortly before calving.  I know that they don't bag down and swell as much in the udder as a...

    i 80 question

I would definitely have to disagree with this!  It takes a believer to make a proven bull.  It is hard to make a proven bull without giving him a shot and seeing what he can throw.  I-80 was once in the same spot.....

calving problems on a nearby farm

These cattle are not new to the farm, they were 7 years old. The first two that this happened to, I believe she lost both the cow and the calf.  The third one she caught and called around to a couple neighbors who ended up shooting the cow and cutting the calf out, then ground the cow up into...

    True Grit

I'm hoping you're kidding!  I was planning on using him.  I would also like to know more on this bull. I think he would be great for makin a stout steer and adding hair,  but I don't know how his heifers would turn out with him looking so short in length.  I have a really long cow I am...

    Denver - Promotional Bull Question

I like seeing bulls all fitted and fancy, but I love seeing pics of them in their workin clothes. I think you will have those that would stick their nose up with him not being fitted, but you'll have just as many people be completely opposite and commend you on having the nerve to not fit him. ...

    Steer is LOCO!!!

I have been in your shoes time and time again!  The most recent time is quite a story I don't care to repeat because it is so embarrassing....but to make a long story short and not so embarrassing, I did not end up showing the crazy heifers.  To this day, 2 of the 3 of them are very spooked when...

    ET School

I just wanted to give everyone an update on how my week is goin at the ET School!  I came into this course with little knowledge of AI and embryo transfer. The amount of knowledge that I have gained in just 3 days is unreal!  I went from not knowing anything, to easily being able to locate the...
