TCCA/TJLA ABC Heifer shows - need advice please

We were in nearly the exact same situation with our beefmaster heifer. Her sire is full blood registered and the dam is beefmaster advancer being 7/8 beefmaster 1/8 limousine that was not registered as a percentage beefmaster. This left us with a 94% heifer we don't have papers on. We did...

    County show

Didnt do as well with our steer. 13th in the champion drive of 24 steers. Poor thing just gave up on us about a week before Houston. I'm the most proud of my boys for doing so well in showmanship. Older one got champion of senior showmanship and the younger on got reserve junior showmanship.

    County show

So proud of my younger son. We had to twist his arm to get him to show a calf but he got second in his class and fourth overall out of 44 heifers in a very competive show. Working on getting a picture up. (clapping)

    Where to buy a heifer

Thank you everyone for your replies and advice. I had a chance last last night to look at the online catolog and there are some beautiful heifers on there I just can't get away from our county fair to go up there. Its at least an 8 hour drive from me. I have barely had time to glance at the...

    Where to buy a heifer

This is probably something I should talk to the calf scramble office about but I haven't gotten that far into the paper work yet but I thought everything had to be registered pure bred to show in the heifer show at Houston. How do you register an ORB or a crossbreed heifer. We have a contact in...

    Where to buy a heifer

Thank you for your reply. My son has his heart set on an angus but I like Charolais. Chars are hot right now. We just started our county show this week so it will be next week before make any decisions. We can't wait too long though, we have to have our first essay with our breed choice/plan by...

    Where to buy a heifer

My son caught a calf Saturday night in Houston and has decided steers are not for him. He wants a heifer. Does anyone have any reccomandations on where to buy a really good heifer in Texas? Willing to drive anywhere in Texas to pick it up and we have a little money to add on to the scramble voucher.

    Our first major

. We sweated bullets over that rule book worried that if we breathed wrong, our son would be sent home but it was much more laid back than we realized it would be. When we went to get our calf released not one single person checked our paperwork. We loaded him on the trailer, drove off and the...

    Our first major

Our first major at Houston went just as we expected with my son being sent back to the barn but we learned a lot. I mean A LOT. The most startling was the blatant disregard for the "rules" of the show. We will be more prepared for that the next time. It wasn't as bad as it could have been. My...

Leasing programs for club calves - for kids

My kids also purchased their beef projects with show winnings. My kids did very well with broilers last year and were able to use the winnings to buy their own animal. As to the original topic my son had his show calf given to him by a family friend last year. He had about 60 head of heifer...

    I think we're done...opinions?

I think we are done. Slicking was a huge adventure. We are going to spend the next week trying to keep him eating and catching the crazy hairs that pop up.

    Tummy troubles

We were giving him champion drive with the diamond yeast in it but he stopped eating it. We have him almost back on track with full feeds but if we try to slip any additive at all into it he will walk away. I have never seen one not eat sure champ but if he can smell anything different in the...

    Replacement heifer

Lol, thanks for the math. It makes my head numb so I avoid it when possible. I guess I should listen to my husband, he said 94%. Can you register one that's not 100%?

    Replacement heifer

She is from a registered beefmaster sire and a 7/8 beefmaster 1/8 limousine cow. I'm not sure how that would break down. Maybe 96% beefmaster?

    Replacement heifer

Thank you for your input. We just love her. She is so sweet and so much fun. She has never gave us a moments trouble. We also love our county replacement show. 750 max weigh in in Oct and a commercial guy comes to judge it. It's no beauty pageant strictly blow and show. Everything is judged on...

    Tummy troubles

Three scoops again this morning. About half of what he would normally take per feeding. If we try to push for more or add SBR/beet pulp/surechamp he will walk away and leave it. I guess it's better than nothing.

    Tummy troubles

he has already been on SRB. We get it from Producers feed mill here in Texas. It's 18% fat 12% protein. He won't touch it, we already tried. We got three scoops of feed in him tonight, one scoop at a time. His regular feed not heifer feed. It's the most he's ate since Monday at one time. We also...
