Anyone attend the sale or have results from Tuesday's East Central Bull Power Sale in Yorkton?

What and which type of beef is it and where is it from?

"Vegetarian Fed"... Got a kick out of that. This reminds me of A&W Canada's new campaign for hormone and steroid-free beef they are using for their burgers. I'll give it to them--they're jumping on a new promotion made of false assumptions that will probably work to their favour with regards to...

    Tail Question

From my experience, if it's gone then it's gone. That's what I've seen, but maybe others have had better luck with it. However, having said that anyone judging a steer or any animal for that matter should never be looking at the quality of said animal's switch when forming their opinions. As you...

The Truth: Every Living Thing Is A Genetic Defect Carrier

Great article. I've been trying to relay this message to people the last few years but this article does a much neater job at it than I have. Every cow/person/"living thing" in this world has mutations, but the phenotypic expression of these mutations either in the individual or in offspring...

    just bull pictures, nothing controversial

Great looking bulls. What would you say the frame score is on your 12Y bull?

    Floods

I was in Banff when all of the rain/flooding/washouts began. The whole town was isolated due to mudslides and washouts. When you think of places you'd choose to be stranded in if the situation came up, Banff would probably be one of them. Unfortunately it rained the whole time so I couldn't...

    Shorty hf bulls

Glad to see my bull is getting lots of attention. People on Facebook seem to enjoy him as well. He has shown tremendous growth in his offspring with all kinds of shape which pleasantly surprised us as his BW is below 70lbs. His muscling is incredible, which has shown up in his calves too (he has...

    1941 Grand Champion Steer

Very interesting video. I enjoyed seeing how they mixed his ration and what was in it. Any idea what he weighed?

    did herefords orginate from shorthorns?

Shorthorn records go as far back as 1790 in England. Pedigree records trace Shorthorns in North America as early as 1825. I know that many breeds came to be due to crossing with Shorthorns- Maine Anjou resulted from a cross between Mancelle cattle and Shorthorns. I've also always wanted to see...

    American Cattle Numbers

I was just curious if there was any resources that showed annual purebred cattle registrations in the US, specifically for Shorthorns. I know in Canada they are available through the Canadian Livestock Records Corporation, but I can't seem to find any American stats. Thanks in advance.

A quiz for Shorthorn breeders/those who use Shorthorn influence cattle.

I'm doing an extension presentation on TH and PHA in the Shorthorn breed, and I just want to get a feeling for what YOU as breeders do with cattle that are found to be TH carriers. Everyone's opinion is different. For example, I know down in the US many champion steers are TH carriers--they've...

Bad Bad day yesterday (kind of long)

Wow very bad luck. Glad that the pigs weren't injured badly. One of my biggest fears when hauling cattle is looking in the mirror to see a calf rolling down the highway. I often double or triple check that the door is latched correctly.

    "Easy" (Coalpit Creek Leader 6th)

Thanks, we thought so too. And I'd have to ask dad but I think the reason for the delay had nothing to do with you- rather the shipping once in Canada. Regardless he'll get used next spring for sure.

    "Easy" (Coalpit Creek Leader 6th)

Great pictures of both the animals and the land down your way. He's got some tremendous depth and thickness to him. We're looking forward to having some calves off of him- unfortunately the semen arrived a little too late for our breeding season this spring so we won't have any calves from...

Going back to that Rito N Bar bull... anyone have the story on him? That picture really stood out for me- incredible muscling.
