Opinions on our commercial Heinz 57 heifer

To give alittle more information on our heifer she was born 2/20/16 and she's been on full feed since weaning. Her mother is a smaller cow 1000 to 1100lbs. We just finished the last show of the season Saturday and the heifer weighed 680 so she's a smaller heifer that's why we were wanting a...

    Calf Growth! I need help!!

I'm just taking a stab you say it's shorter in the front end than the back end...... Young growing cattle tend to grow from the hips first then the front end will catch up....Then they will level out until the next growth spurt.

Opinions on our commercial Heinz 57 heifer

What bull could we use, (looking for a pure breed Angus not really a clubby)to help level this heifer out and put more bone on her frame?

    Injectable vs. Pour-on wormers

Thanks you guys for so much information and responses they are very helpful. We have 8 yearling heifer we are gonna try long range on and see how we like the results since they are in a completely separate location. I have a feeling we will love what we see but we wanna start small before we...

    Implant strategy/suggestions

I'm no feed expert but I would say cut back or even get rid of the cottonseed they are just filler and up his feed to 30lbs. Cause him weighing 980 and eating 3% of his body weight he should be eating right at 30lbs. Hope that helps

    Injectable vs. Pour-on wormers

No don't get me wrong I see the benefits of using the injectable kind I've just never personally used it so I was wondering if the cost difference is worth it. I saw an ad about LongRange injectable but we have breeding bulls and it says not recommended for breeding bulls so I don't wanna have...

    Injectable vs. Pour-on wormers

OK so I had someone tell me to try injectable wormer that it was better than pour on.... My thoughts are how so? Pour on is easy, less invasive cause I don't have to give my herd a shot that can 1 possibly cause an abscess and 2 scar the meat if the animal is intended for slaughter and 3 it...

    Interested in F1's

We've decided to just up the quality of our herd since we can't afford to go out and buy the same amount of registered cows to replace our commercial herd so we are gonna just breed for more efficient higher productive cows that we can get alittle more more out of and we purchased our first...

We just don't want to get in over our heads and get in a mess with large calves.

We decided that we are going to start culling our older mama cows and start slow to get a stouter frame on our cattle by using this bull on our heifers to start fresh. Then after we get a few calf crops out of him go to a full simmental bull then possibly cross a few to a charolais.

Will hopefully get pictures of the bull we are looking at, by this weekend but I'm posting a picture of his papers and epds. He's about 18 months old and he's 3/4 Angus and 1/4 simmental

Mark H, our average cow size is 1100 to 1200lbs give or take. We are located in mid Georgia this is our first time stepping up our game but we are tired of run of the mill cows so want to put some performance into our herd. We haven't been worried at calving time cause the registered Angus bull...

Thank you simmgal that real helpful to have some insight on the breed. We aren't gonna settle on just one bull across the board in our herd we are just looking and want to know what number to look for when looking at the rods of a simmental, charolais, and shorthorns cause I know each breed is...

We have thought about the shorthorns but never had any experience with them, just always done the black hide thats why we thought simmental and love the growth of the charolais. But would definitely keep the shorthorns in mind. Just wondering for any of the three breeds(charolais, simmys, and...

    Interested in F1's

So we are considering making a few F1s. We have a commercial herd mainly Angus influence with very light touch of brangus and Limousin. We are considering breeding a few cows to some charolais and simmental bulls. We are hesitant on the heifers cause we aren't sure they would be safe for a first...
