    Scramble heifers

There are definitely some politics involved, maybe in all breeds. Angus have some political" problems, but to me that is part of the challenge. I do not think one shy away from the competition, but try to BEAT the best........then YOU and your calf are the best! The top end in any breed is...

    Scramble heifers

While we are in the business to sell show cattle, I do not wish any ag teacher to encourage a kid to buy a calf from me just because we are friends or have some sorta "deal or relationship.". I want anyone and everyone who buys from us to beleive we have excellent prospects that are priced...

    Immigration law!!!

Forget race or political correctness.  If I am pulled over, and I have my driver's license with me, the officer can verify my legal status in a matter of minutes. While it may be an inconvenience, compare that to the problems caused by illegal immigration and the costs in terms of lives, drugs...

    Scramble heifers

A number of shows in Texas, including Ft. Worth, San Antonio, Houston, Waco, and Austin, have a "calf scramble" as part of the rodeo. In Houston, 24 kids compete  to see who can catch, halter, and drag  12 calves inside a big square chalked off in the middle of the arena. The  winners get money...

Have sold 5 this year (and have more available).  My question is, how many of you get help from your ag teachers or 4H advisors?  What advice do they usually give/ Are most helpfull? Just looking for info to better serve our future...

Who Makes a Good Creep Feed?

We use Martindale 14 % creep pellets, but we improve it. Our creep  feeders are mostly 1 ton. We put in the first 20 bags, then 50 lb. of calf manna and 50 lb. of corn chops. Then repeat and fill the feeder. Works good  and calves like it better. The corn chops and calf manna is smaller and will...

Sometimes bad things turn out GOOD! One of our steers, a VERY good Angus that classed out @ Ft, Worth and Austin, was CHAMPION BRITISH @ his county Sunday. Nice looking heifer! Pretty "clubby".

    Angus "Classing out" @ Austin

Warrior, the answer to classsifiers from a specific breed association, as concerning Angus, is that there are basically 2 types of Angus. Carcass cattle that have a set of numbers that indicate they may have a higher quality of meat, and are popular with many breeders, and the stout show cattle...

    Angus "Classing out" @ Austin

Jeff and chambero, you guys are obviously well versed and experienced in Texas steer showing. I appreciate your thoughts and your common sense answers. Cambero, I totally agree that the classifiers should have some training, see some real good Angus cattle and not be the "numbers Angus" or...

How did everyone fair in Houston?

I heard the judge across the arena, judging the "long-eared" cattle, and I was impressed in his passion and "to the point" comments. Unlike our Angus judge that stated on most classes, " this was challenging for me" , or words to that effect. He was bogus on so many comments, the favorite being...

    Angus "Classing out" @ Austin

I can not say what it is, but there MUST be a better way to "classify" steers. I ain't a whiner. Just trying to breed good Angus cattle. We are not a typical Angus outfit that relys on "numbers". We have super thick, plenty big, fast growing, correct, good travelin' cattle that excell in the...

    Angus "Classing out" @ Austin

Well, it has happened again. We had 2 pure blood registered steers class out. My contact told me they classed out about 20 of the 30 Angus entered, leaving few to judge. I was not there. But it is tough when 3 supposed "experts" class out a calf for, basically, being "too good to be an Angus"...
