    Showmanship

Does the calf acting up not show that the show man didnt do the work at home?

    Showmanship

I can see the side of asking kids questions. I don't agree with asking all of them nor do I agree with a judge asking you to switch animals.  But I do things others won't agree with either. That's the cool thing about cattle shows and agriculture in general, we can agree to disagree,  sit down...

    Co-op Herds

We've done the same thing $1000 a head at weaning for a live calf

    implants

Huh sweet deal. I doubt I'll every need to use them but now I know how it works thanks. I 100% agree with "the quality of hair is more important then the amount." The goal is to have both, but I'd rather have quality then quantity.

    implants

The first time I heard about the implants for hair growth was only a couple weeks ago. I've never had a problem growing hair living this far north in canada where a really hot day to me and the cattle is 85 and a nice day in winter is 0.But I am interested in what people that have used it think...

    Covering Aluminum Chute Side rails

An aluminum chute is totally worth it even if you have to paint it. Lighter weight  (work smarter not harder.) and it won't rust. Even with paint on steel it'll still rust and with rust on a chute it gets an animal dirtier then aluminum not painted, wrapped or powder coated. We've had one for at...

    Destination Ahead-- Trainwreck??

In Canada in '02 we were hit with a massive drought, like in some of the states right now. There was no feed or grass anywheres. That winter we had our typical cold long miserable winter. In the spring of '03 when everyone thought prices couldn't get any lower they did, the bottom fell out of...

    club calf herd

Red Northline Fat Tony, he's the 2011 U.S. National Red Angus champion from Denver. His calves are averaging 78 pounds at birth and grow. He has a big hip and huge topped. I posted pictures last week on here of him and some of his calves. I know a couple club calf herds have used him already...

    Showmanship

Something that puzzles me about people that judge showmanship is why ask all the questions? Other then knowing the birthdate of your calf and it's weight have you ever in a confirmation class at a show been asked what the animals breeding is or what you would change about it? I think knowing how...

    Fat Tony

Thanks to everyone that used him. We appreciate the support in our herd and the bull. All the calves I've seen have been small at birth and unassisted calving. (The -4.3 BW is pretty bang on.) The one thing I have noticed about his calves is that they stay small til about the 2-3 month mark...

    Yellow and white simmentals

Last year at the big Fleckvieh and fullblood Simmi sale they averaged 4,200 and the high seller was 10,250 on the bred heifers. Only 17 bred heifers sold but still shows that there is a market for them up here. The bulls averaged 3,300.

    Yellow and white simmentals

Come to Canada! They're are still lots of herds here. Lewis Farms still sells a wack of them every year and this year they averaged around 5000........ A Traditional Simmi is as common as the Reds and Blacks. It's one of the reasons why Red Angus are so popular cuz the traditional commercial...

You'll never get politics outta showing cattle. It's part of the gig, somedays your the bug somedays your the windshield.
