    Aborting cows

Sell the cows and buy open heifers. They'll eat less and will calve the same time as your cows if you were to abort them. Another thing to think about - you might get those cows AI'd next spring, but what will happen with them the following year? They didn't settle this year. How many of them...

    breeding limousin cow

If the cow isn't registered Limousin (you didn't say if it was or not), you're talking crossbred calf. Of the listed bulls I'd go with WMW followed by Goldmine. If your rep has the angus bull Frontman, I think he'd work well on your cow.

what is the name of maternal brother to I-80

Maine Man is sired by Hot Commodity out of I-80's dam. ABS now carries him - $25.

    Bismark or Brilliance?

I'd second Brilliance. Pretty fronted, lots of volume, easy calving.

    Guard rail

In SD last fall it was $2.50 a foot. Might be cheaper to the east. Your effective length will be 12.5' - that will be the measurement center to center on the end slots.

    prolapysed uterus..

Lucky_P is right on. I've had a few uterine prolapses over the years. Kept every cow after the fact, they all rebred, and none of them ever prolasped again. I would say in all of my cases it was heifer, maybe once a 3 year old. I have also seen a couple vaginal prolapses. Had to stitch them up...

New herd sire what ya think?

Very good looking bull, Matt. What's his frame score?

Simmi Breeders what do you think? would you use him?

I believe he's walking on rough frozen ground. If that's the case it would make him more tentative in his stride. Take another clip on grass or when it thaws and I'm guessing he'd move out with ease.

Looks like an acceptable leg set to me.

    Sire to Dam Size Question??

If you want to downsize while breeding naturally, it would probably be a good idea to go to an 18 month or two year old bull. I've turned yearling bulls (6-6.5 frame) in with large cows (8 frame at least). The cows got bred, but they were later in the season and I know they had cycled early. I...

    Thoughts on Angus Heifer

I would consider SAV Brilliance. He doesn't have the docility number of Hoover Dam, but the rest of his EPD's are comparable. I've seen some very stylish heifers out of him.

    adding frame size

I've got some small framed Maine cross cows. What bulls will add frame size while maintaining capacity and soundness?

    Daggum goat!

The goat was lucky. The first year I had pigs on my place, a few got out and under the electric wire and in with the cows. The cattle went ballistic. They were bellering, butting, and even stomping on those pigs. I mean cows jumping in the air and coming down on those feeder pigs. It was all I...

    raddish's

Radish, as a cover crop, will tie up the N so it doesn't leach through the soil. When the radish die or are sprayed out, they'll release the accumulated N back into the upper soil profile where it will be available for the subsequent crop. Grazing is fine. My guess is it's probably a forage...

    Feeding a small Steer

Is he on an ionophore? If not, could be he's got some coccidia and the stools just aren't bloody yet. Putting him on corid or giving him some long acting sulfa boluses (Sustain) sure couldn't hurt.

    Market Heifer and Heat Cycles

I agree. A 3 month fetus doesn't demand a lot nutritionally. I see a lot of breeding heifers that I would deem too fat.

    Heifer birth weights

What's the largest birth weight heifer you've ever kept for a replacement? I've kept some that were 102-105 and haven't had any issues if I've bred them to calving ease bulls - 85-90 pounds for the first calf and generally unassisted. I bought some Charolais cows last spring and one had a 117...

    what type of automatic waterer?

Ritchie omnifount. A plastic fountain with stainless steel trough. The last one I bought was about $550, although that's been several years. Clean it periodically, but otherwise a low maintenance waterer, even at -20 degrees. I've also got the all plastic Ritchie fountains with drop in heaters...

    Haybuster no till drill ?

Are you overseeding or has the ground been worked? If the ground has been worked, broadcasting should be fine, but I'd pack it after seeding if at all possible. You'll get more even germination and a much thicker stand. If you're overseeding, I believe I'd opt for the drill.
