At my local fair we have classes for them during the steer show like any other breed. We also have a Champion/Reserve dairy steer. The grand dairy steer steer gets to compete in the grand drive as well. I live in Indiana.

I'm using Walks Alone, Grandmaster, and Brilliance on a first calf heifer.  :)

For us in Indiana, we've gotten a much needed rain the last few days. We've gotten about 3/5 of an inch. (1/2and then 1/10). Therefore, it has been cooler and my steer is eating pretty well and has kept most of his hair. Wondering if anyone else has had luck without a cool room?

Yep I gave him his second dose of 20 cc a few minutes ago. His first was yesterday. He ate about 5-6 pounds of feed this morning and 4-5 flakes of hay. Probably going to feed him 7-8 pounds tonight, walk him some and see if he cleans it tomorrow. I'm planning on giving him the probios for 2 more...

Ya I'm not sure why he lost weight. I could tell by the sunkeness and shallowness. But I've fed some baking soda today and he ate half of the pan. When he wasn't finishing it I took it away and gave 4 to 5 flakes of alfalfa/grass hay and he consumed it immediately. I then bought some probiotic...

twistedshowstock- Thanks for the advice! The county fair is more important to me than any jack pot show. Therefore, I should be more concerned on how the steer will grow and put on weight towards the end when it really counts, and not pushing him for an open show. I need to keep an open mind at...

Competitive in my county fair as in the hunt for Grand Champion with the fair not being overly competitive in cattle. (Grand Champion may place in the middle of a state fair class). and for open shows yes the middle and up would be my goal. this year I was placing in the bottom half of the class.

I'm just looking for a calf that would be pretty competitive at my county fair and at some local open shows. Not really looking for calves that are in the hunt for state fair.... but I would like to show my calf at state fair sometime.
