    Semen came today!

Well my AI technician notified me that my semen came in today! However, I have a few questions on my cows/heifer coming into heat. The heifer was being ridden in a separate pen with a small steer like crazy last night! However she did not stand. I waited this morning and evening and he didn't...

It is soooo hot here... (compared to normal!)

Looks to be the same here in Indiana as well. Went up to Lafayette a few days ago and the crops look a little better than what we have in southern Indiana but not much. No rain and 100 degree temps. The ground is so hard that it's almost impossible to drive a post 2 inches into the ground. Some...

    Filling Out

I don't think that it's bloat. He's bloated before and his left side is considerably more extended. You can see is rise above his back and it's hard for him to walk. I'll keep an eye on it to make sure. It's starting to fill out a little with large amounts of hay. I will keep working on it.

    Filling Out

Wow that calf looks great! How did he do at the fair? I would have to say that mine is close if not already there. I think he could put on more to look better, which is good since the fair is a couple months away. He weighed 1000 at the end of February and 1125 at the end of March.(that was the...

    Filling Out

I have a shorthorn steer that I'm showing. Our fair is in late july/early august. I've noticed that his left side is full, extended, and looks great. But his right side is sunk in and doesn't fill out at all. Therefore, he looks a little lopsided.... and the right side is the show side? I'm...

    Nephews cheap fair steer...thoughts?

In my opinion he is a good solid steer.I have a clubby shorthorn steer myself who looks very similar. He's deep bodied, that shows muscle definition through the lower part of his quarter that carries down ino his stifle. He's very extented through his neck and shoulder and doesn't have a lot of...

    Treats for Show Calves

I was just wondering what and if you can feed your show calves treats? For pigs it's marshmallows and syrup and horses peppermints....but what about cows? Are there homemade treats you can give them too?!? Please comment and share your thoughts!  ;D

Opinions on this Simmental/Angus Heifer Calf

Nice to see you back on here Jody. He is eight , will be nine when he shows. So yes he is a bit young. The calf is cocky in being that she holds her head high (she has a giraffe neck on her). But she's doesn't seem to be hot headed. She allows us to get close to her. I guess we will just have to...

Opinions on this Simmental/Angus Heifer Calf

Thanks! Yes she is very cocky and I'm liking her so far. I'm breeding her full sister to Brilliance so far, and if everything works out I will probably breed her to Brilliance as well.

    bodacious or walks alone?

Would you say that BIM sires similary to WA? I'm breeding a large framed/tight gutted simmental/angus 4th calver to BIM. She does not have a smooth shoulder and I've read that BIM does and that he will add that to his offspring.
