What ever happened to honest judges

We typically take recommendations from our exhibitors for judges they'd like to see, and then put them on a list of names that gets constantly rotated and modified. Last year at NWSS I sat across the Coliseum from a major breed show that was taking place and watched the bull show. As the judge...

Anyone know of any Gelbvieh breeders

I'd recommend contacting the Hayek family, they normally pull some pretty good stock. Another option, contact Randy with Mitchell Marketing - he has enough connections across the country that may be able to get you exactly what you want.

Bagged Show feed - Your input appreciated

We feed a ration from Woody's Feed  & Grain who is a local company in Norht Dakota, although I've seen people from all across the country feeding it. We pay approx $8/ 50lb bag.

    Feeding Older Cattle

I brought 2 bred heifers and a coming 2 year old bull out of pasture on Saturday to start feeding them for this fall/winter. You folks that pull out older cattle - what percentage of body weight do you typically feed? On calves I normally stay between 2-3% of body weight. 3% on a 1500lb bull is...

    New website. OPINIONS NEEDED

My biggest critique is that everything seems stretched for some reason. The navigation bars seemed like the words were stretched just a bit, as did the image at the top. I know this is weird, but it literally made me a bit dizzy. Otherwise I think you have a good layout to work with.

Heard the high seller went for $210,000 to ABS. 2nd high seller was around $110,000.

    2 new herd bulls

We've known Vern & Eileen for quite a few years. We've got one son working in our herd right now on heifer duty....he's the true definition of a heifer bull. Calves average 65 pounds at birth and 750 at weaning. Last year was our first set of calves - put him with 15 heifers, got 1 bull calf and...

"SCHOOL of HARD KNOCKS"...Contribute if U Can!

1 - The fastest way to ruin a good set of cows is to buy a bull because everyone else thinks he's a good one. 2 - EPD's and numbers can lie, Phenotype rarely does. 3 - It's much easier and safer to play in the calm water then try to ride the wave of a trend.

    2 new herd bulls

I know the feeling. Bought 1 bull out of Sioux Falls on the 5th, turned around and made it to Swift Current on the 6th and bought a Canadian bull, and then picked up another the following week. We're running 5 herd bulls this year, 4 of which will be yearlings. Could be interesting.

    Trailer from Billings?

Winning Champion pen in Denver didn't hurt them any this year. What did the Kodiak semen end up going for? I heard earlier in the week that there was already 1 bid in at $150-$200/straw to take all 100 straws. I would have liked to have gotten 5 straws for flushing a few Gelbvieh cows with.

RW - Did you spend some money up at SooLine?

    Trailer from Billings?

How far Midwest? I've got a bull out at Hawkeye right now that I'm going to have to get home at some point.

    Angus sires?

What did you guys think of HF Tiger from Hamilton Farms? I saw him at Agribition in November and then again at NWSS. I thought he was probably one of the best Angus bulls I've seen in a long time, for my needs.

    Need a partnership name

Here's the one thing I'm keeping in the back of my head - if the other party drops out of the partnership, it'll be just me, so I almost need something generic enough so it's not directly tied to either name.

    Ahead of their time??

The Floto bull did have quite a bit of semen imported into the US, in fact he was one of the bulls that was used quite when the first Gelbvieh semen was really catching on and being imported. Look through a few generations of the top Gelbvieh cows and you're nearly guaranteed to find some Floto...

    Denver Get Together

Would love to join in but was already there and back. We were supposed to be there with cattle from the 6th to the 12th, but the weather forced us to leave cattle home and fly in on the 8th.

    Need a partnership name

Bought into a bull futurity while down in Denver this year and need to come up with a name for the partnership. 1 important thing to consider - the name we choose will be the name we are stuck with. We can't add people to the membership, but we can always have people drop out. So my partner...

Looking for Doubletree rooms in Denver for Jan 15 -16

You can check to see if there are any rooms left in the Gelbvieh block. I believe they had overflow rooms set aside at the Doubletree (our headquarters is the Red Lion). Reservations ar esupposed to be made by Dec 10th, which is today, so you should be able to get in....

    Agribition---Who had the top cattle??

This was my first time going to Agribition - wish I had known there were so many SP's up there! The Angus barn was pretty salty all the way through. I made it through the Shorthorn barn, but didn't get a chance to talk to anyone. We'll be pulling cattle up there next year, so I need to make some...
