OK, MORE bull questions with a different twist.

So do I need to give you our website again? :) We just purchased 2 new herd sires this year that pretty much fit the mold of the perfect Gelbvieh bull in our eyes. One showed up this morning from Canada and the other will be here in a couple weeks.

    AI video - educational

Wouldn't mind having that vet assistant come out and help  ;) I'd probably need to block off half an hour a cow though :)

Have you ever wondered... not cattle related

Here's the definition from Wikipedia: From Italian word minestra (soup) + -one (augmentative suffix) hence "the big soup", the one with many ingedients, is the name for a variety of thick Italian soups made with vegetables, often with the addition of pasta or rice. Common ingredients include...

    Cough Medicine

If the cough is keeping you from sleeping, but a good amount of Vicks on your feet as well and then cover them with socks. Dumbest thing I've heard, but my wife made me do it and it works like a charm.

Any thoughts on what day to wean?

We wean and castrate based on moon phases. You can definitely tell a difference in the calves that missed the right phase. Also when castrating we've noticed that calves castrated in the correct phase seem to bleed quite a bit less and heal up quicker...

    Burning Through Hay

I sold some cull cows in November and got $375/cow for 1200 pound cows. At that price, I figure it's actually smarter to try and winter them and sell them as pairs....but who knows the way things are going!

    Partnership Horror Stories

We've been involved in a few partnerships and a majority just don't end well. We had one bull that we raised and sold to a guy for 1/2 interest. The guy ended up in bankruptcy status 2 years later and decided to haul the bull to the sales ring for quick cash. Other arrangements always seem to...

    Frozen Ears..

White vinegar will help. Rub it on the edges of the ears where it's frozen and it will help to get circulation going again. Don't ask me how or why, but it works.

    mulit-min

Ok, I'm gonna play dumb (maybe not playing, depending on who you ask). What is multi-min, what does it do, and how can it help/hurt?

    Existing bull's name?

Is there a rule in the shorthorn that you can't have a name if another breeder has it? I know of at least 3 Tommy Boy's in the Gelbvieh breed alone...
