    Keeping barn clean

Central Cedar in Antlers, OK ships it all over the country by the pallet.  Luckily we are only an hours drive.

    Correlation between exercise and soundness

We walk our calves at least a mile a day behind the tractor.  It has made a HUGE difference in our big steer.  Depending on the day and heat my husband will walk and get them up to a light trot.  The calves seem to feel better mentally and pysically after the walk.  I definitely think it helps...

Waiting for the Sales to Start

I am getting anxious for Breedersworld to post pics and videos of the up coming sales.  We are looking for at least two prospect steers and with so many sales, I think I'm going to have to build a spreadsheet to keep track of what I'm looking at.  Lol, just joked to my husband that we may have...

    walk in cooler

We bought two walk in coolers from a grocery store that was moving.  Out of that we assembled a 12 x 20 cool room.  We dug a pit, put in a deep layer of washed rock, and then cedar fiber.  We've had the calves in for three weeks now and no problems at all.  The cooling units that came with the...

    Steer only wants hay

Our fat steer only wants to eat hay now, not much grain.  He will eat all the hay you give him, so it's not like he's not eating, would just like to see him gain

    Cool Room 24/7?

Does anyone leave there calves in the cooler 24/7 except for walking and washing?  What would be the downside or any problems?  With the heat here in SE OK, it's still 90 at 10:00 at night and the humidity is extreme.

    Our Eye Candy Steer

What do you think.  He weighed 1185 last week.  Our county fair is the first week in Sept and then on to Tulsa.

Anyone using the eco boost for hauling?

Hubby says it has more than enough engine, may be lacking in suspension.  Will outpull the 6.0 chevy.  We pull a 20 ft gooseneck show trailer and hardly notice it's back there unless it's really windy.  Love it.  The mileage is great.  Way better than the Expedition I was driving.  A shout out...

    boardwalk calves

We have a Sept 11 boardwalk heifer out of a Hoo Doo and Red Angus cow.  She is really small and round.  Not bad and hopefully will grow some hair, hasn't really grown into what we were hoping for.  I'll try to get a pic in the morning  We weighted her last week and she was at 755

    city folk and weaning

A lady we know is outraged over the fact that our show calves are in a dark cool room all day and only come out at night.  Hello, our big steer is so coddled it's almost embarassing.  He has better grooming products than I do, gets about $4.00 a day in supplements alone, and gets rinsed, combed...

    Best Truck To Get???

We just bought a 2011 Ford F150 with the ecoboost.  Gets 19-20 mpg around town and has power out the wazoo.  We pull a 20ft gooseneck showtrailer and you hardly know it's back there. LOVE it.  We have the four door and the back seat is huge.  Rear seats fold up so it's like having an SUV to haul...

    Cool room routines

We just got our cooler up and running this week and this is an awesome topic.  We are walking, rinsing and blowing at 6:30 in the morning, letting them eat, then putting them in the cooler.  Around 1 we go and offer water.  I am feeding in the cooler at 8 because the temps here don't drop down...

    Extreme Heat

We are in extreme SE OK and it was 101 here yesterday with a light wind.  Today is our local Ag booster Jackpot and it's supposed to be 106.  Thankfully it's just sheep, goats and pigs.  No way we are pulling our calves out of the cool room.  That said, Tyson is letting us use a special trailer...

    Stuborn Steer

We must own his sister.  We are to the point of using the hot shot.  She's fine as long as she knows you have it, but my daughter will never be able to use a yellow show stick, lol.  She is super good temperment, just stubborn as a mule when it comes to being walked or led.

    Am I reading this right?

There is no official weigh in at Tulsa?  We just declare our weight and are subject to a 5% weighback?
