I agree with jtm some good hay in the pan will be best bet to get his interest. A small salt lick or other familiar items could help aswell

    2015 Suh hfr

Thanks Mark she has adequate rib shape in my opinion but I'm hoping to see touch more muscling as she develops. She gets a little flat in rear end. Just trying to decide between her and another that's a little more powerful but not as soft made.

This heifer is out of a cow we bought last fall. We are very pleased with the Anchor C cows we got. This is one of two good heifers they gave us. Any thoughts on her would be appreciated . Would she make a breeding heifer for fall shows?

    Fence height?

Use 5 strand Barb wire at 50" at the top and 12" on the bottom. Feed pens are mostly 2x6 with wind board gradually changing out to pipe for less maintenance but it is more costly. Use the h.d. Pipe panels to build catch corrals in fall. Working pens are pipe 72" as we see all types of cattle...

    Wild Cattle

Depending on your area you could try to hire a couple of day work Cowboys and have them roped and skidded into a trailer. It's western but with experienced hands makes shirt work of them hard to handle cows. We've worked a number of cattle this way as we worked the char influence out of our herd.

question about Duramycin 72-200 for pinkeye?

When the la 200 products aren't working we have had succes with either long acting penicillin or the a mastitis product by the name of special formula. Using a sulphur block or garlic mineral can also aid in prevention although the sulphur product is not the best for gut health. Good luck

    maine bulls on angus cows

I would agree with Mark. As well Ceasar is an older bull that can add some grow and keep the look on the calves. I'm expecting Jose and Daddy's Money will both make there mark on the maintainer world too in the near future

    Beltie steer

As a guilty pleasure of mine it's nice to see some beltie out there. I sold off my old beltie cows when refocusing our program but retained a beltie maintainer heifer to try getting a purebred belted Maine.

What are the best genetic and non-genetic decisions that you've implemented?

From a commercial perspective retaining own replacements rather than buying in has really increased uniformity and predictability. From a seed stock perspective using mor AI and higher dollar clean up bulls rather than just a bull. Best decision away from genetics is checking my ego at the door...

cow in heat two weeks after birth

Had a mainexredangus cow that would cycle quick and catch each year if we didn't watch her closely. The last year we had her she actually calved twice in the same calendar year.
