What would Maine bull to use on her?

Thanks for all the suggestions. This hefiers is a bit of guilty pleasure project lol. She doesn't fit our current program but when my wife had her Galloway cows we all joked about raising a pb belted Maine. Finally got a belted half blood out of our last Galloway cow. So we figured we had to try...

What would Maine bull to use on her?

Thanks for all the input. I do have Daddy's Money in the tank but was concerned about lack of frame size with the Galloway influence in the hefiers. Although a live calf is better than anything else first time around.

    Heifer issue? Anyone

Try mixing a dairy supplement in with some grain for the hefier had a similar problem last year and it seemed to help her. Although to quote my grandpa "not every border collie works and not every black and white milks" there's unfortunately no guarantee.

    Who's Your Daddy?

We have DNA pulled on all our herd bulls I think its cmaa standard now. That way I can run multiple sire groups as cleanup for a shortened calving season. In the fall we will pull hair on any calves we retain that maybe in question and send away to paternity test.

    livestock trailers

Have pulled a number of different trailers helping neighbors and relatives. Seen them all working sale barns out of high school. My choice would by far be a Wilson if I was buying a new one. The are solid made a durable. My current trailer is 1996 sundowner I got from my dad. Stood the test of...

    Cummins 6.7L

It will never be a 5.9 or 7.3. But probably one of the better new "enviro" diesel motors. In our area the hotshot and cattle haulers all run dodge or ford. Tells me something when those are the truck people making their living in. I'm a ford guy myself but quite like the newer dodge trucks the...

    Haylage vs regular hay

We feed both we chop about half our hay to speed things along. Can be in and out of field before the hay would ever be cured to bale. Its more expensive to put it up that way with the equipment and labor needed to get job done. It makes excellent feed and tends to be higher protein than its dry...

    Heifer won't accept calf

Had the best luck with the dog in the stall. The cologne trick also works wonders. As far as the kicking goes hobbles work best. Good luck with it most first time mothers only have this problem once.

    First Generation Rancher

My own tid bit would be respect what has worked but don't be afraid to put your twist on things. The world the market and business is always changing so don't be afraid to take the old and innovate to fit the new. But stay true to what makes it yours. When you enjoy it its a lifestyle not a job.

    First Generation Rancher

Ask why as much as politely possible. Also just listen the old timers pass on a lot of knowledge if we are just smart enough to listen. I wished I knew that when I was younger helping some of the local ranchers growing up. Too many of them good fellows are gone now. So now that I'm a bit older I...

Cows or Bulls that it was tough parting ways

Always had good quality calves wished I knew at younger age what I know now would have kept a lot more of those good calves around. Have two daughter and two grand daughters and...

Thanks for responses. I agree with suggestions on presentation. Grant was one of two names I considered and was definitely the more promimant of the two.
